We enjoyed a comfortable stay at the Ambrose which was welcoming from the moment we stepped through the door. Reception staff could not have been nicer and after a long day of driving - 12 hours - the cool, dark interior was as welcoming as a nest. Our room was spacious and comfortable - lovely beds and linen. The bathroom was spalike with good products. We even got a bottle of champagne and chocolates in our discounted rate! It is not on the beach but the hotel has a shuttle that takes you wherever you want to go, whenever you want to go. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance.
Breakfast was fabulous. Gorgeous pastries, really really nice. Good cereals, coffee, yoghurts, fresh fruit. It was simply delicious. Parking was complimentary which was a wonderful change from the $30 a night commonly charged by Santa Monica hotels. We would definitely stay here again.

I stumbled upon a gem of a hotel. My husband had a surgical procedure at a nearby hospital and The Ambrose Hotel kindly provided a discounted rate for families of patients. I was greeted by exceptionally friendly (and compassionate) staff. The location is quite and the rooms are lovely. The breakfast, superbe. It was a wonderful place to be during a stressful time as the grounds and whole atomsphere are very peaceful.
My husband and i will plan to return there on a pleasure trip.
I would also like to personally thank Linda for being very accommodating and courteous. I will highly recommend this hotel. A lovely respite, a lovely oasis.

Our week at the Ambrose was both restful and relaxing. The calming atmosphere and serene decor , combined with their "green" philosophy, made our stay a very good one. The room was clean, the breakfast good and the staff very helpful. The complimentary car service around Santa Monica as well as the free, secure parking were also great. Lots of stores and restaurants in walking distance made this a perfect respite from the busy LA traffic. Being close enough to access everything you want to see and do, yet far away enough to to relax and refresh made the Ambrose a very good choice.

The Ambrose Hotel was rated high, but it was such a nice, comfortable surprise. The rates were great, parking free, continental breakfast included, exceptional convenience, beautiful residential neighborhood. It's a bit of a walk (2 miles...but we did it) to the shopping district of Santa Monica and the beach, but if you can't walk that far, just drive and park closer. No pool. But who needs it with the beach? No restaurant. But who needs it with breakfast included and all the options of LA?

Room Tip: A balcony would have been nice, but we were good facing Arizona.

My wife and I stayed here for a week end while we were out in CA and we loved it. The location was great, staff was accommodating and friendly, the rooms were clean, and most of all it's a "green" hotel. We also took the shuttle service to the Santa Monica Pier (about 3-5 minutes away) in what we were hoping would be the London car, but it was in the shop. However the Lincoln 2012 Navigator wasn't too bad to ride around in. Everything was great and would recommend this hotel to all my friends.

Room Tip: The top floor corner rooms are the best.

A very relaxed, chilled boutique hotel based in Santa Monica that gets away from the hustle and bustle of LA. Perfect for weary travelers on long haul flights to recuperate and relax before taking on extreme tourism. We loved the breakfasts with fresh organic strawberries and starbucks coffee, and use of a courtesy car to and from Santa Monica. A little pricy but worth if if you include all the additional benefits.

The Ambrose has a lot going for it; I’ve stayed there several times and fully enjoyed myself. The hotel offers a wonderful continental breakfast, free and safe underground parking, and
complimentary Wi-Fi. Lots of good restaurants are within walking distance, as is Whole Foods. Other reviewers have noted its many assets. This time, however, I didn’t feel the love; something is different. Maybe it was a lack of lightness and serenity for which The Ambrose is well known. The dark wood and furnishings throughout seemed heavy, the furniture needed attention, the rugs were a bit worn, the lighting too dim – little things, nothing significant in and of itself, but the cumulative feeling was a bit sad, especially considering my previous experiences. And I wish the hotel could sort out the breakfast rush hour – there are never enough places to sit inside with convenient space for coffee cups and plates; a few additional small tables would be of great help. It would also be nice if the reception folks could find a way to make us guests feel more welcome. I found myself working hard to establish rapport with some of them; they’re good people but a bit too stand-offish at first, especially considering they are, after all, in the hospitality business. OK, enough complaining. The Ambrose is still an extremely attractive alternative to the big expensive Santa Monica beach hotels. If a convenient bit of peace and quiet on the west side of LA is your cup of tea, this is still the place.
