“Very nice hotel in good location”
Reviewed April 26, 2012 via mobile

A friend recommended the Ambrose to us for our stay in Los Angeles and we were very pleased with it. We didn't have any particular preferences on which part of LA to stay in but were very glad we ended up in Santa Monica - it is a great spot. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, the room was large and very clean and comfortable, and the free parking was great. The hotel is a little way away from the 'main' part of Santa Monica - I would say a 20 minute walk to the beachfront - but there are still loads of restaurants and cages nearby. The breakfast was also really nice - very simple but more than enough.

Nice hotel about 20 blocks from the beach. The room was although a bit small. Nice gym with a few treadmills and a nice selection of weights. Free parking and breakfast were great free add-ons.

We stayed at this wonderful hotel after the hustle & bustle of New York. It was a pleasant surprise to find that not only was it spotlessly clean, it was very quiet & relaxing. The oriental themed court yards and library were a joy to sit in and unwind. The rooms were very comfortable with an enclosed balcony. Rooms were also spacious & clean and the beds were very comfortable. The gym was well equipped for a good fitness workout. If you don't have a car, you can ask one of the very friendly and helpful staff to drive you where ever you want to go and they will also pick you up when you're ready to come back. The breakfast buffet was delicious. I loved their pastries which were flaky & fresh as croissants should be! Only disappointment is that they don't have a mini fridge in the rooms. Overall, this is one of the better hotels I've stayed at and am looking forward to staying there again.

Room Tip: As this is a low rise building I think all rooms would be quiet and comfortable.

We stayed at The Ambrose for 4 nights recently and would thoroughly recommend it. We had asked for a quietish room as we were flying in from the UK and would be jet-lagged and they gave us a lovely room on the top floor which was very quiet. The room was really big and there was plenty of storage for 3 of us. The breakfast was absolutely fine and just what we wanted. There wasn't a lot of seating in the breakfast area but even when it looked busy, by the time you had chosen your breakfast there was always space for us. It was very relaxed and very simple. We made use of the free taxi service twice when we went out for meals which was great and saved us trying to park. There is a large underground car park which is secure so we were able to leave the car there most of the time. The staff on reception were very helpful when we asked them various questions about bus trips etc (would definitely recommend the hop-on hop-off tour that covered Santa Monica, Bev Hills, Hollywood and downtown LA). I chose this hotel because of previous reviews and it lived up to all expectations and more! We would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is a very good value for this location. It has an asian theme and the design is very nice. It could use some updating, in particular the carpets in the common areas. The rooms are nice and the beds are comfortable. The breakfast food is very good and is all organic. There is not a lot of seating in the breakfast room but we managed to find seats each day. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful.

Our kids just moved to LA and we were headed down to assist in getting organized in their new home. I had booked something along the SM beach, but this hotel was recommended on Trip Advisor and sounded more appealing - and it was! We drove down from the Bay Area with a van loaded with excess stuff from the kids and parked for FREE in the hotel garage (do you know how rare free parking is?!). Our room was delightful (craftsman style) and very well appointed, clean and very comfortable. Loved the live bamboo arrangement in the bathroom. The gym is very clean and functional and has a nice outlook to the ever-busy boulevard. The morning breakfast fare is not only delicious but healthy - good news after a big workout in the gym. Staff friendly, will smile and look you in the eye (also something missing frequently in today's service sector). We will stay here again, and have earmarked this as our "home" while visiting the kids. The only soft criticism is the need to improve the landscaping a little in the small courtyard - otherwise all-around great boutique hotel.

Recently stayed here for one night. I booked it because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor. I have to agree with all the rave reviews. The hotel, for everything that you get out of it (well-located, comfortable, serene, clean, good continental breakfast, fitness room, free taxi around the area until 10pm, complimentary parking) is so affordable compared to other nicer hotels in the SM area. Staff was attentive also, but not too imposing. Hotel has a good-sized lounge and garden/patio area where you can hang out or read a book. I also like that it's very eco-friendly. I would definitely stay here again.
