I contacted the hotel directly for a top floor ocean view room, with a private patio. The rate is $480/night. The pictures looked awesome...We were given a 5th floor room with a patio that was anything but private...Each patio is level with the room next door and you can sit on yours and talk to your neighbor, see in their room or they in yours...private balcony? It's a joke! The room itself was small, with the 2 double beds. The beds were lumpy - my sister and I actually woke up with sore backs! I knew we were in trouble when we checked in and there were 3 people ahead of us - all complaining over their rooms...Seriously, folks...this place is definitely NOT worth the money. They have construction going on as well, so our room overlooked the construction of the building directly in front of us on the beach - not the beach. We checked out early and stayed at the Ritz in Marina Del Ray, which gets a 5 star rating from us...Of course - coming from the Loews, anything would get at least a 3 or 4! Beware of the small bathrooms as well. The tub actually sits partly under the single sink! I've never seen anything quite like this...The whole experience was depressing...

We stayed at this hotel for two nights, April 5 and 6. We had a wonderful time. I heard no plumbing from other rooms as one other reviewer had mentioned. Everything about the place was great. It's on the beach. It's two blocks from the santa monica pier. Everything is super clean, orderly. The lobby is grand -- with big, tall rows of palm trees (artificial but with great taste). the lobby is on the fourth floor and the first floor is the floor with beach access. On the outdoor terraces there are grills that can be fired up at night when it is cold. Our room was on the 6th floor, and faced the ocean. Two queen beds. No problem with noises. The bathroom had two areas -- one with the toilet and shower, and another area blocked off with a door with the sink and tub, which is great if you travel with others. There are lots of nice touches; the soap dish is a beautiful abalone shell. Big and small things were taken note of by this hotel. Beds were clean. Carpets clean. Sheets smelled great. Pillows were nice and fluffy. If you have children, the pier is great. They have the run of a nice clean safe beach. There are rides, ferris wheels, roller coasters to entertain them.

No soundproofing in the rooms. Every conversation from surrounding rooms is audible. And that's with folks speaking in normal tones.
Coffee maker broken.
Valet Parking exorbitant for an LA Hotel ($30); valet service is very nice, though.
Plumbing noises similar in decibels to a train running right by the room. And this is the plumbing sounds (showers, WC's, etc.) emanating from other rooms.
For that kind of money there should be a quieter experience between 11PM and 7AM.
But that's just my opinion.

I stayed at Loews for a long weekend the end of March and had a wonderful stay! I went with a couple college friends for a weekend girls getaway. We all loved it and were so impressed with the hotel staff. We arrived around 11 a.m. and they were able to get us our room right away. Everyone was so friendly...the front desk staff, parking, housekeeping, etc. We were very impressed.

Our room was very comfortable for 3 people. Beds were fabulous! The bathroom was a very nice size with a huge mirror..helpful getting 3 women out the door! The housekeeping was great with fresh towels and clean linens each day (a simple request by placing a card on the bed) and turn down service at night. Soft music was left on for us along with lights so that was a nice greeting to return to in the evening. Our room overlooked Ocean Ave...other reports said it was loud....but with our patio door closed, it was certainly not an issue. We didn't mind not having an ocean view as little of our time was spent in the room. The hotel has many other places to relax and enjoy the view!

The pool was very nice. Pool deck clean and tidy. Water was warm and very comfortable for the cool March wind off the ocean. My favorite part was the little "fire pits" they had along the edge of the pool deck at night. We sat our there each night next to the fire watching and listening to the waves coming in. SO relaxing!

We never did eat at the hotel restaurant, but did visit the hotel bar just off the poolside and lobby. There is a beautiful room just off this area that looks out onto the ocean. Also, many cute little seating arrangements throughout the lobby area for guests to sit and visit. Again, all the staff was so kind.

We ate out at the MANY restaurants within walking distance. Ivy's is just down the street, 3rd St. Promenade is just a 10 min walk and has many coices, and the Santa Monica Pier just two blocks away has two restaurants. We had breakfast twice at a little place called Jinky's....very good! All these places we learned about from the concierge....they were very helpful as well.

We all were so impressed with this hotel. The location is simply amazing...you can't get closer to the ocean! I would go back in a minute!

This was my fourth stay at this facility. Given a few issues on my prior stay, the room reservations were made directly with hotel management. I am a Loews First gold member. As a reminder, if you are not a Loews First member, sign up prior to your stay, it is free and the extras are welcome.
We had two rooms booked around the atrium balcony on the 8th floor. Having stayed previously I find those rooms, although overlooking the pool to be the most welcoming for the partial ocean view rooms.
The city view and partial ocean view rooms are virtually the same except for location. The full ocean view room has a different bathroom configuration.
Remember to stay away from the "12" rooms (like 812 or 712) as you will hear the mechanical noises from the elevator; not from people, but the elevator operation itself.
If you are a light sleeper, this is not a good choice. The bathroom has some colored glass on the wall between the bathroom and the back of the sinks. When you put any of 3 of the 4 lights on in the bathroom, anyone sleeping in the bed will have the lights shining in their eyes. I hadn't objected to this issue previously because most times I traveled alone. When traveling with family, the bathroom lights became an issue. The bathroom doors also fold into the wall so the do not have good closure with respect to noise.
There were lights that were not working in the room, they were fixed promptly but I was surprised since they were in the bathroom that housekeeping did not deal with the issue.
The telephones did not work either and had to be replaced twice.
Although the hotel was made aware of our arrival time, one of our rooms was not ready until almost 5pm, some two hours after normal check-in time and some 3 hours after we arrived.
The pool area was very crowded, towels not replenished without asking and generally too small for a full hotel with very warm weather.
Concierge was efficient and it was kind of cool to have them recognize me by name considering I haven't been in the hotel since last summer.
We ate at Ocean and Vine only for breakfast. They used to have a hot and cold buffet for breakfast which they have discontinued. We asked to sit outside and although it was 9:30am in the morning and 3/4 of the outside tables were empty we were told they were reserved. It is my belief that they were understaffed and wanted to contain the patrons inside. The breakfast service was awful. Coffee was only offered once. It took 15 minutes to get my tea and we had to get up to swipe cream from another table as none was made available to us. My breakfast had to be sent back 3 times as it was incorrect. We assumed it was just a bad day but the next morning the service was just as poor. The experiences at Ocean and Vine have over all of my visits not been at the level one would expect at this type of facility. Consider dinner next door at the JW. Quite awesome.
A word to the wise, check the pillows on the king size bed. They were limp and the hotels has tons of all kinds of pillows available on request.
Valet parking has gone up (no other option except valet) to $30 a night. The bellstaff is friendly, delightful and funny. There is wireless available in the guest rooms for a fee. The business center prices for internet and printing of boarding passes is outrageously expensive.
The hotels location is convenient both to the PCH, the Pier and the 3rd St. Promenade but I would consider other options in the area on my next stay.

You can not beat the view and location for Santa Monica. Really enjoyed my stay and would defintely stay again. Right on the beach, next to the Pier, bars, restaurants and shopping within walking distance. The most amazing shower I have ever had. Rooms were clean and smelled fresh. Water pressure was awesome unlike many hotels in LA. Nightime sit outside on the veranda and enjoy with the outdoor fire pits and ocean view. Staff was friendly and valet on the ball. Very relaxing experience!

We stayed here for a week in Aug 06, and we would not rush to return. I've travelled a lot (but not in LA area before) and was stunned how ordinary and small the rooms were, given the high price. The pool is also small and shallow, with seats crammed around. And a word of warning: if you're booking a family room for 4, think again unless your children are either v young or v small - for 2 teenagers + 2 parents, it's unworkable in my view.
On the positive side, the location is good, service was fine and food was OK. This is Santa Monica so value for money is an alien concept, but for what you get (nothing special) this hotel is very pricey.
