“Good hotel but eat out!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

Stayed for two nights in January after cruise finished in LA. An ideal choice for us and an overall enjoyable experience. Reception staff, concierge and bell staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Hotel is excellently situated with an elevator down from the lobby to beach level ,a narrow road to cross and a very short path to the promenade, not far from the pier.

We booked a beach view room and paid a surcharge of $35 per night for a high floor which was probably worth it but views from high floor rooms over the pool would have had better beach views than ours which was partially obstructed by an apartment block. The room had a step out balcony which was great for a refreshing early morning breath of sea air.

There were lots of problems with the TV service in the room which took a while to sort out but a complimentary movie was offered for the inconvenience.

The downside at this hotel is the dining options. Ocean and Vine we did use twice but while the staff were excellent the menu was not at all interesting and we found it difficult to find something to our tastes. At the pool the service I am afraid ranged from non-existent to rude through to passably polite but far too late-and anyway the choice was not great -so we passed on both occasions. The second time the lunchtime problem caused by lack of choice and service was solved by my wife remaining at the pool (soaking up every available minute of sunshine before returning to the cold and grey of England) while I fetched hot lobster rolls, fries and sweet cucumbers together with a fine bottle of Californian chardonay from a restaurant two blocks away-delicious! These were consumed by the pool, probably breaking house rules but service must improve in this area.

The food issues did not in any way spoil our visit as there are many fine restaurants within short walking distance but if, like us, you are visiting on a busy weekend, do get the concierge to make reservations as there seemed to be long lines waiting for tables outside all of the best restaurants.

Would also suggest room only booking and take a stroll all along the promenade to Perry's beach cafe for breakfast-tables on the promenade and the beach with a fantastic choice and efficient service.

Would we stay at this hotel again-yes! It is a beautiful hotel and in a great location but would aim to eat out unless the food offering is improved.

Room Tip: High floor overlooking the pool and beach

If you check in with yelp, parking is free for 3 hours. What a great deal! We came for drinks and had a wonderful time. The staff in the bar at area are very cool and pleasant. We will be back...maybe for a stay!

Due to crazy airlines, checked in at 4am - no problem and the front desk service was wonderful. Everyone was very accomdating and helpful. Our room had the most beautiful view of the beach/ocean with a lovely patio with chairs, umbrella and a table. Sat around the fire pit the next night with a group of friends, and had wonderful service, drinks, food, etc. Definitely need to go back and spend more time to enjoy everything!

For starters, the location of this hotel is PERFECT- Your right next to the Santa Monica Pier, Muscle Beach, and the Ocean.

I was staying here on Business and they made everyone feel very comfortable and were very well organized in terms of the room bookings and food service.

I'd recommend renting bikes from the hut right outside the hotel and take a ride to Venice Beach. There's lots of good people watching down there!!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of the ocean if you can.

Recently stayed here with my family. Comfortable rooms and modern hotel. Staff are friendly but such a large hotel you can feel a little anonymous. Hotel is situated on the beach and there is easy access to the main Santa Monica shopping area. Lovely to run along the promenade but suggest you run towards the pier and Beyond rather than towards Venice beach - this soon became quite an unpleasant area and as a women running on her own I felt unsafe.

Don't get a room on the first floor- road noise.

Room Tip: Not the first floor - no sea view and lots of road noise

Spent three nights here and had a very comfortable stay. The room was clean and spacious, as was the bathroom. The decor of the room was nothing special, but this tends to be the case for most of the hotels i've stayed at in Santa Monica versus other cities. The location was great, and we had a nice view of the pool and beach from our balcony. Service was excellent. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 8th floor that are poolside provide excellent views of the beach

What started off a bit rocky, our reservation was updated weeks before we arrived-emailed confirmation and all yet the hotel didn't have it nor could central reservations for lows-good thing i kept the email, turned out pretty good.

Although they confirmed my 'upgrade' they couldn't deliver the first night but did the following 2 nights and the upgrade was worth it! Direct view of the ocean with a small/tiny balcony with sliding glass doors, which we kept open during the day, awesome!

I will stay here again but will keep all my reservation confirmations handy, just in case!

Room Tip: Get the corner rooms with a view of the ocean and balcony. We had a view of the Santa Monica pier f...
