“Great location, reasonably comfortable, generally good service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2012

We used to live a few blocks from the Loews, so we knew this is where we wanted to stay. Easy to walk to 3rd Street Promenade, Main Street, the Pier, and really easy access to PCH and I-10. Some people have complained that this is not really on the beach, but from the 1st Floor entrance/exit, it's literally a small parking lot away. If you can see the sand from the door (which you can), that works for me.

Good views, too, and both the pool area and lobby area are superb places for a cocktail and a view.

The rooms were reasonably comfortable - not incredibly plush, but nothing to really complain about. You could hear doors slamming in neighboring rooms.

The people who cleaned the room also left their cleaning rags in our room, which was fine, but they left them on top of our luggage, which was not. Other than that, service was just fine, especially the valet team.

For the price, you might expect luxury, which the Loews isn't - but you do get a great hotel with good amenities and nothing to complain about.

I booked myself (mind you I'm a travel agent!) a 375 Sq ft room BEST OCEAN VIEWS, which are more expensive than the 330 Sq ft Pool View, and upon check in they don't even mention I'm not getting the room I booked, once in the room the view is of the POOL, can't see the ocean at all, and room is smaller at 330 Sq ft...I call the manager who INSISTS IT IS an OCEAN VIEW!!! when clearly I couldn't even see the freaking OCEAN from the room!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
So DISHONEST!!!!!!
Any other hotel would have apologized upon check in telling you the room category you booked wasn't available and would have adjusted the rate!!!
Also thought room was outdated, and never mind the very long hallways to get to you room from the only 2 elevators...worst than Vegas!!!
Book somewhere else!!

I spent a couple of nights here for work. Make sure to get a room with at least a pool-side view (which also means that you´ll see the ocean). My room was big and clean, however I have to admit that I expected a bit more class given the price point. Staff are great and fun and the poolside bar is a great way to start off the evening.

The popular Santa Monica pier is nearby, so is the tourist friendly 3rd Street Promenade and Venice Beach.

we stayed recently at santa monica with Loews in a ocean front king room. The room was fantastic with great views over the beach and fitness area, the bed was really comfortable and the staff were so friendly and helpful.
Our room had a balcony with a table and chairs and 2 sunlounges which was also great as the weather was perfect.
All in all a great experience

Room Tip: ocean front king with terrace is the best

Disappointed to find the hotel is not on the beach because the website does to such effort to say it is. It's a block off the beach. From the patio king suites, you look put on a road and other beach front properties and then you see the beach at a distance. It's really an "ocean view" hotel. Can't imagine how long they will get by with the false advertising. That being said, I think it's the best beach hotel experience if you stay in a room with a patio. Better than Shutters in my view. The prices are better and the experience is better. The 4th floor restaurants and patio/pool area is especially nice and also is not found nearby. My only complaint about the hotel (as opposed to the misleading advertising) is the gym. I don't mind that you have to pay an extra $10 a day to use it. The equipment is poor quality - TechnoGym. A hotel like this deserves good equipment in the gym. The room is too crowded with this poor equipment so there is very little room to do anything but workout on the low quality machines. Went two days and felt like I had a bad experience each time. Save the $10 and workout on the beach!

The only negative regarding our visit is the pre-establish room service charge. Something like 21% if I remember correctly. Travelling with our 4 and 1 year old to this location. Very close to the beach, the pier, and the main tourist promenade. We also used the on-call babysitting service which was great (additional charge). We've also stayed at Lowes in Vegas and it was very good as well. They also gave us a late check-out time that was a life safer with two small children.

Room Tip: Rooms are not as large as one would like but what are you going to do?

I would highly reccomend this place: great location, friendly staff, huge lobby area with full bar and nice seating area outside overlooking the ocean - it's the best I've stayed in Santa Monica. Rooms are big enough, though you can be not completely happy with the back street view.
