It was Valetine's Day early evening and we had reservations at the fancy shmansy Bouchon in Beverly Hills. We started from the "valley" and the freeway was jammed. So we took Topanga Canyon to Pacific Coast Highway. We called Bouchon and told them we were running late and asked to hold our table. As we approached the Santa Monica Freeway it was jammed again--and the radio said it would take another hour to get to Beverly Hills. So I drove off into Santa Monica. There were no parking spots in the streets so I decided to park in the new Third Street Mall. We wadered around the mall to see what restaurants were there--but who want to eat in a mall on Valentine's Day? We were reading menus and read the one for Nordstrom's restaurant. It was Asian and it sounded interesting so we walked in. It was cute so we figured what the heck. They do things differently--serving small portions and you order accordingly. We started with the spinach and apple salad--and it was great. Then we went on to lettuce cups with Szechuan glazed chicken, crisp and spicy (they made it mild for us) dark cherry glazed beef, skirt steak with Romescu sauce & balsamic roast onions, and roasted butternut squash for veggies. We finished with warm chocolate raspberry cake. Oh and my wife got a glass of wine and a pot of French press coffee. All-in-all it was a delightful (my mouth is watering writing about it) meal in Nordstrom!
