i could have moved in. i felt really at home. we had a 2 king bedroom suite looking over the ocean. this is a smalll friendly hotel which should really be called an upmarket motel. the pool and inside areas are small but fab. the decor needs updating but it was comfortble.
you can get take out delivered. the staff is helpful and bits are being updated. it is an expensive place to stay. would i go back? yes. most certainly.

Checked in and then checked out because our $400 doolar a night room, was without air conditioning! It was pretty hot during the day and the only air would come in from the open window, but being on the first floor and in the front, it was like literally being on the street. Turns out there are 3 such rooms---so double check before you book. For $400 a night, they could spring for a window unit, no?

Hotel Oceana's location could not be better... the beach in your frontyard and LA in your backyard. The service, most notably from the Front Desk was terrible. Starting with an 1.5 hour wait to check-in and continuing with no towels.

The Room (2 bedroom Suite) was perfect. Great size, layout and the mini-bar items are like you stock in your own home: ice cream, popcorn, great wine and kid friendly snacks. You could easily stay in these accommodations for a week without feeling closed in.

I think when the front desk gets it's act together Hotel Oceana will be the place to stay.

very impressed.

didn't want to stay at cookie cutter hotel (ie, single room with one or two beds). needed a suite for small gathering of friends, but didn't want to pay outrageous prices charged by viceroy, fairmont and other high end hotels, even though our tastes gravitate in that direction (like most i suppose!)

oceana was perfect. very friendly staff. the pics online look a little cheesy, but in reality the decor is quite charming and not cheesy at all. (although the hotel should replace the two CRTs in the room with flat panel TVs at some point) two lanais, one facing the pool which serves as the hotel's center, the other on the bedroom with partial view of ocean.

hotel was able to accomodate our 2p checkout the next day, even though checkout time is 11a.

great experience overall.

My wife and I attended a good friend's wedding in Santa Monica. We extended our stay and treated ourselves to some relaxation. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The pool area / courtyard is very nice and secluded feeling. Everything is very clean and and well taken care of. The lounge chairs were comfortable and there were plenty of pool side towels to go around. The cleaning staff kept the room in tip top shape. Everything worked and it was well stocked. The suite was very relaxing and spacious. As with all good comes a little bad (if you want to call it that). Bring your own coffee if you are a coffee drinker. The hotel charges three dollars for the small, one time use bagged coffee, which makes about two cups. If you like wearing sunscreen, bring your own, the hotel charges nineteen dollars for a small bottle of the stuff. Parking...if you drove here and want to keep your car with you, the hotel charges twenty-six dollars a day for vallet service. They will retrieve your car as many times as you want but $26 a day to store your car was a bit much. With a little hunting, street parking works just the same but read the regulatory signs, some streets are timed and have restrictions. The rich and famous are near by and you feel their influence. All in all the hotel is very nice and we would go back.

We had decided to splurge on a nicer hotel on this visit to LA.
At $450 + a night we expected more than a low-ceilinged pseudo-suite off the pool.
It was a bed, a tv, and a kitchenette.
Decorated in faux Matisse style, the furnishings were pathetic. Appliances identical to what one would find at a Residence Inn for 1/3 the price.
Could someone explain why a hotel would provide two sets of towels with a single towel rack capable of holding a single towel? We draped the second set over the bathroom door.
The staff was courteous and helpful, but couldn't relocate our "suite" since they were fully booked. Fair enough.
That said, the single concierge request we made--an inquiry into acquiring two next-day tickets to the Getty Villa (which are FREE!) resulted in a prompt response that they were available for $100 apiece. Surely there are finders' fees, but this was ridiculous. We ended up getting day-of tix online ourselves gratis.
The $26/night parking fee rubbed the wrong way given the whole setup.
Great location. Enjoy the complimentary apples in the foyer!

Great location for walking, the beach, not too far from shopping and restaurants. Beautiful, huge rooms; with a South-Beach style decor. We are used to NYC hotels and our suite here was so spacious! Kitchen was handy, we stopped at Whole Foods and bought wine, juice and munchies, did not touch the hotel stuff!

The pool was small but warm, quiet and lovely. The workout room was also small but good for a basic workout, although we walked and biked for excercise. The bathroom was large, with funky decor, but as a previous reviewer mentioned, needs hooks! The Aveda products were a nice bonus. Having two TV's was nice as I did not want to watch hockey! Huge walk-in closet, lots of drawers. The balcony off the bedroom was a nice quiet retreat. Wish the windows had screens to keep the files out.

Our room was very quiet, a little street noise, no honking horns, nothing compared to most city hotels. The best thing about this hotel was the staff. They were all so pleasant, especially afternoon/evening front desk person Christine. She was so helpful with dinner reservations, directions, extra pillows, and always with the friendliest smile. All the staff went out of their way to be helpful and pleasant. I would love to come back with the kids, they would enjoy the pool and beachfront location.
