“Best budget place value in Santa Monica”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012

This is a great choice for budget travelers in Santa Monica.

Which says a lot as it's quite expensive in this part of town!

The room was great, very clean, free parking, and about a 15 minute walk along the beach to the Santa Monica Pier (or 40 minutes if you are hobbling along the sand in jandals/flip flops with feet full of blisters...)

The lady at the desk was a bit brisk with us but helpful none the less. In the little reception bit are plenty of helpful brochures as well as some magazines and books for you to borrow which is a nice touch. Had a small fridge and a place to sit and eat. Bathroom was good too, if a bit noisy.

Noise is actually the thing that lets this place down. It was quite noisy and after midnight this truck pulled up at the drive with a band playing in the back (um...only in America?!?!?!) which filled our room with lights and noise. They seemed to stay for ages (prob only 10 mins) but it was really annoying as we were super tired from our day.

Our room was close to the front- I'd recommend asking for one near the back to get away from the street noise.

Stayed on our first night after arriving from the uk....great help by the owner...good sized room for family of four and very clean. Great for one two night stay. Really close to Santa Monica beach and all other amenities. Would not think twice about staying here if ever we were in Santa Monica again.

I liked it here and it's such a good location with restaurants handy and safe to walk around by yourself at night. Two blocks away from the beach, bus nearby and only $1 to go to the Promenade or to Venice Beach.
As another reviewer said, the decor is a little tired but I liked it here and the management team were really nice, personable and helpful. As a lone traveller I felt safe in this area.

There is a little cafe attached called Amelia's - good food and nice people too.
I tried two restaurants nearby and can recommend them too.

We enjoyed our stay at Sea Shore during our honeymoon. It had a great location on Main Street. Lovely places to eat near by, cool shops and walking distance to Venice beach. We even got to Universal Studios within about 40 minutes, hassle free (by car). You may think it a little pricey for a motel, but felt that for the area, the value was really pretty good and feel we did well paying what we did. You have to take location into account when pricing up a stay in an LA beach town! The room had plenty of space, it was clean and the bed was comfy. The front desk staff were friendly and offered us help planning our stay while there. We weren't disappointed and wouldn't hesitate another stay there if we were in the area again. Thanks! PS, try The Omlette Parlor a few minutes up the road, yum!

Based on the many positive reviews, I booked the Sea Shore Motel for a stay of several nights. I don’t know how so many people could like this motel. My family couldn’t wait to leave. We travel frequently and this was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and the most expensive. Since it was summer and everything else was booked, we had to put up with it, but never again! For the first time, the Tripadvisor reviewers let me down.

The basic problem is that the Sea Shore Motel is run down and in need of repairs. While it looks nice from the street, the rooms inside are not so nice. The fixtures and furniture are old and seem to be on their last leg. One side of the closet door would not open all the way due to how it would rub on the tile floor. The trundle bed creaked so loudly that it would actually wake me up in the other room. (I don’t know how my son put up with it.) There was Wi-Fi, but it would boot you off every few minutes and you would have to log back in. The electrical outlets wiggled when you used them making me wonder about how well the place is wired or if it is even safe. Even the little things were neglected. There were three rooms in our suite, but only one trash can for the whole place.

While the rooms are quite large on space, most of it is just wasted. Storage is minimal and devoid of basic guest necessities. While AC is advertised, it is only in the living area and has doesn’t get to the bedroom. The only closet is in the dining area even though there is plenty of room in the bedroom for another one. The bathroom is very large, but the small sink, stall shower (only), and the toilet are crammed together on one side. This makes it impossible for more than one person to get ready to go out. The bathroom reminded me of the type you would find in a handicapped room that has extra floor space to move around in. But this was not a handicapped room. Also, the lighting was inadequate and the shower curtain wasn’t even wide enough for the stall. The dining area had a mini fridge with a microwave on top. There was no wet bar there or, despite plenty of floor space in that area, no counter or storage space to use. The dining table was the only other piece of furniture there and it only had three chairs.

The upside was that you could easily walk to the beach, the pier or Venice if you want some adventure. The room was clean and there was plenty of hot water. The area that the hotel is located in is right on Main Street. This was nice during the day to walk around, but the noise at night made it impossible to sleep. If you are an early riser or just not interested in nightlife, then this is not the area for you.

Don’t believe the positive reviews, just do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms near the road if you want to get any sleep.

We are sorry to hear about your experience! The fact is, most people stay with us because we are in the middle of all the action. Just read our previous reviews. Sure, Main Street can be busy and noisy (of course it can. It's an extremely popular and active street by the beach) but that is common sense. Our rates are very, very reasonable for this area. Some people just don't seem to realize that Santa Monica is the 2nd most expensive beach city in the USA. We take pride in that we are a small and clean family-owned motel and we are always open to new ideas, feedback and suggestions. Our guests are our #1 priority! We also know that we aren't everyone's cup of tea. There are plenty of luxury hotels with ocean views right up the road for them.

The room was fine -- clean, good size. Bath fine. Staff very helpful and friendly. Problem was that the weather was hotter than normal -- in the 80's. Made for a hot room plus the air conditioner really worked more like a fan. Had to have the windows open. Would have been fine, except across the street was a Victorian event place that turned on something that made noise in the evening and through the night -- like crickets and snoring. The refrigerator was small and not very cold. The good points are that it is right on Main Street a short walk to everything: beach, restaurants, stores. We stayed 2 nights and basically didn't move the car.

This motel had a great location in Santa Monica, it wasa five minute walk to Venice Beach and close to lots of restaurants and bars. Our room was fairly small but it was clean and in a decent condition, also as we were only there for one night it was more than adequate and very good value for money considering the location and the price of nearby hotels. The staff were friendly and helpful and very willing to answer any questions we had on the local area.
