We are from the South (Gulf Beaches) and it is quite different in California. The ocean is beautiful, the sand is tan, deep, and the walk from parking to the water is quite long (esp if you are carrying lots of things). There were A LOT of people on the beach, more than we expected. It was not a wild crowd, but it's not a quiet, relaxing day at the beach either. There weren't too many people in the water and the lifeguards are very involved in what's going on.
