We really enjoyed our stay at the Shangri La. We couldn't ask for a better location right on the beach and 1 block from fantastic shopping! The room was clean, beds were really comfortable and staff were friendly. We would stay again and recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Room Tip: Choose a large corner suite, we found we were a little too cramped in a standard room.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Shangrila on 10/20/12 for one night. The room was very nice and clean. I found the decor to be very modern and fit the boutique feel of the hotel. The hardwood floors were a nice change from carpet. Our room was an ocean view, which would have been beautiful but it was overcast, obviously not the hotel's fault.
We had a king bed which was very comfortable and had plenty of pillows for the two of us. We had plenty of towels and toiletries. I used the in-room hair dryer which was great to have. Accessing the free wifi was easy as well.
We were able to walk to the pier which wasn't too far and we were in close proximety to surrounding restaurants and shops.
If you are concerned about privacy within the bathroom there may be a slight issue as there are only frosted windows between the bathroom and main area of the room. The tub was a little high, we didn't have an issue but shorter people might, though they did have a stool available in the bathroom.
We did head up to the roof bar, which was really a neat venue that had really nice views. It wasn't really our style of place to hang out but it was great that we were able to bring our drinks to our room (a perk of staying at the hotel).
We had breakfast the next morning in the hotel's restaurant. The food was good, a little pricey but we were on vacation and I expect this. We also were taking a tour that morning and they were able to accomodate us so we were not late. Also the complimentary coffee, with to-go cups in the lobby in the morning was great to take with us.
One thing I thought was fantastic was that we were able to leave our car at the hotel while we did our tour, even though we had checked out of our room. It really saved us the aggrevation of finding parking before we went on our tour. I don't know if they do this regularly or if we lucked out because it was a Sunday and not super busy but it really was a great feature for us.
We would definitely stay here again. Hopefully next time the weather will be better and we can stay a little longer.

Too many disappointments for me with this hotel.
Outside walk to get to room..
Shower curtains.....
Bath based shower....
Odd lift arrangements....
Old style textured bathroom windows....
No appropriate drop off pick up vehicle area.....
Basically an old building - that just doesn't support the Shangri La name.
Very expensive given its great location understandable.
But the experience doesn't fit the cost.

We stayed here for one night during the weekend of March 16, 2013. The hotel is in a great location. It is walking distance to the beach, many restaurants and shops. The only negative we experienced was the size of the room. It was one of the smallest I've ever stayed in. If we were to have stayed for more than one or two nights, I think the size of the room would have become a problem. The staff was wonderful. I would not mind staying here again.

Room Tip: If you are going to stay for more than one or two nights, tell them you have heard the rooms tend to...

Not worth $800 for two nights. Great location and view, but we expected a bigger feeling property. Room was cramped and felt old. Staff was professional and friendly. Head of security has a good sense of humor!

We recently stayed at this hotel as part of our honeymoon. The location of the hotel is great it looks out on to the ocean and is a short walk to the main shopping area & some nice restaurants. The facilities downstairs, pool, hot tub etc are beautiful and relaxing. Our room was very small & poky for two people with suitcases, the cleaning staff made quite a lot of noise cleaning the room next to ours one morning, the doors on the rooms are quite heavy and it seemed like every time a cleaner went into/out of the room the door just slammed shut (this happened quite a lot)! There is a beautiful roof top bar which we were informed stayed open until midnight however we found that it would be closed whenever staff decided, we came back to the hotel for a late drink one night and the bar was closed at 11:20pm...we were told that the bar has to close when the bar downstairs closes! As residents of the hotel I found this very disappointing. This is a great hotel and the art deco style is beautiful.

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment (2 Adults, 2 children). The newly refurbished rooms were modern and clean. At night we went up on the rooftop to watch the sunset while enjoying a few cocktails... Dinner and breakfast were great and the staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money. The only drawback was done street noise from the traffic (I didn't hear it but my husband did). In the morning we strolled outside and bought some yummy things at the farmers market... We will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Santa Monica :)
