We stayed here for 2 nights. Already having visited Santa Monica before while staying in LA, we didn't want to go through the fuss of taking the car or bus to enjoy the wonderfull beach, promenade and pier. Hotel Shangri-La is one of the best locations you can have in Santa Monica: close to the 3rd Street promenade as well as the pier, which gives you 1 of the best views of the Sunset I have ever seen! The hotel itself: valet parking is quite expensive, but we knew this upfront and we didn't want to risk parking a rental car in a public parking closeby. The rooms are very modern, we stayed in a room for disabled people which made that we could be in the room immediately, only downside was the shower: since this was foreseen for a wheelchair the water ended up almost everwhere in the bathroom, so better place some towels in strategic places, not to flood the whole room. After leaving the bathroom, the 'wooden' floor in the room was quite slippery, so be carefull not to fall over. The pool: nice and cosy little pool and jacuzzi that gets you relaxed after a long ride. Neighbourhood: conveniently located near the SM pier and the 3rd St promenade, with its shops and restaurants, so there is something for everybody! Staff in the hotel was very friendly at checkin and the fact that you can sit down while checking in made it a more cosy feeling immediately.
After our stay we noticed an extra charge on our credit card which was apparently an item of the mini-bar we didn't use. This error was quickly corrected through some e-mail exchange, so no complaints there! So, when you don't plan to take anything from the mini-bar, best not to browse around in it to avoid discussion!
Next time we want to stay in Santa Monica, the hotel Shangri-La will certainly be on top of our search list!

What a great location to stay in Santa Monica. If ever we go to LA again I would definitely stay here. All the staff are very friendly and willing to assist at all times. This was the last stop on our 4 week holiday and we stayed for 4 days, I am so glad we did - wish it was longer. Our suite was well appointed and the sofa bed was comfortable for the kids. We enjoyed breakfast and lunches in the restaurant. 3rd Street Promenade is only 2 blocks away and great shopping. We hired bikes down on the pier twice and enjoyed trips to Venice Beach. We had a hire car which allowed us to go to Disneyland and drive into Hollywood.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter whether or not you have an ocean view room or not as we spent most of our time down the 3rd Street Promenade.

We loved the Shangri La. We stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of our four week holiday. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food in the restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced. Loved the location, close to the pier and shopping but far enough away from the crowds. We had excellent service from Clancy who gave us some great tips and the hotel also recommended a great driver Sammi who drove us around everywhere. We felt very comfortable with him and his colleagues, if you need a car ask for Sammi he was great. Overall, the hotel is not modern and trendy but the excellent service we received far out wayed a need for a trendy, cold hotel. The kids loved the warm cookies and milk when we checked in too! Enjoy!

I had a confirmed booking through a discount travel agent. Once I got to the hotel at 11pm, they told me they cancelled the reservation because they were full. The girl at the front desk was very apologetic and said they cancel people's reservations from discount travel agents all the time. If you're booking through a travel agent, better call the hotel directly and confirm you have a room beforehand.

Started our trip here with excellent service from the start. The rooms were clean with all comforts catered for. The views were fabulous looking over Santa Monica beach and boardwalk. The staff were extremely helpful and helped us to organise us FedEx our cases to Las Vegas as we were going on a bike trip. The breakfast was delicious with good service to. A short walk to the beach and shops makes for a great location.
