Colonial style beach front luxury hotel. Decor has been carefully cured in the minimum detail from the shutters outside the windows to the Ernest Hemingway novel that awaits you on your bedside. It has all the facilities, great for kids and close to the commercial area of Santa Monica. Makes an excellent get away in a busy city.

The Hotel and staff were awesome. The Coast restaurant was a beautiful setting outside. It was somewhat spoiled by the sparrows. Should have some signs don't feed the sparrows and maybe some electric wires to keep them from landing above. Got pooped on 3 times in one meal. Really ruins your appetite. I was surprised when I pointed out poop on the table the waiter didn't wipe it up and went on break. Not good for the cost of the food which was average. My son came to visit and was there 4 hrs or so. We were told the valet cost would be $8.00 for the first 2 hrs and $2;00 each hour after and were charged $36.00. Everyone seemed vague on the costs involved. Other than those things great stay.

Shutters is located on the beach front close to Santa Monica pier. Our suite had a small balcony overlooking the beach, gorgeous views and casual pretty decor. Staff are efficient but unpretentious and low key. The restaurant is a lovely room overlooking the ocean. The hotel is pretty big so be cautious about your room allocation. The hotel manages to be relaxed and upscale at the same time and is a good choice if you have business in LA or are visiting for fun.

Dear Mrspalatine –

Thank you for such a gracious review! We are proud to be one of the two luxury hotels on the beach (the other is our sister property, Casa Del Mar, next door), and it is a pleasure to read how you were able to enjoy the amenities of the hotel and of the local Santa Monica neighborhood. We hope you will return again soon.

The only comment I have is when the wait staff is asking for your room# when dining or lounging at the pool, it would be nice for them to be discreet. For example, I asked for something and the attendant asked "What's your room #?" out loud. I whispered my room # and he repeated it OUT LOUD. Everyone around could hear. A little more privacy would be nice!

Amazing room and very nicely appointed, best location in Santa Monica with direct beach and broad walk access. Staff very helpful throughout the stay. Food is very good for breakfast (Lemon ricotta pancakes to die for), the communal areas have a great cotton club house feel to them, really nice.
