This is an average hotel with an average pool, average service, average restaurants and room service, and small rooms. That's not what I expected for over $600/night. The only bright spot is that it's on the beach. I read a couple of places online that guests could "walk out of your room and hit sand", so I had much higher expectations of this place than a small hotel room facing the front parking area of the hotel (with the ocean barely visible over two buildings 1/4 mile away in the distance). If my room had cost $200/night, I would rate it higher. But for over $600/night, I expected first class everything. And this place is third-class at best. The lobby is the best part of the hotel, but I don't hang out in lobbies. Lowes or Viceroy will be at the top of my list when I visit Santa Monica again. I'll never stay at Shutters again.
