Owner description: This bustling wooden wharf is the place to be, with its eateries, shops, high-tech arcade, roller coaster, giant Ferris wheel and other rides, famous 1922 indoor merry-go-round and fantastic views of the bay and the mountains.

- very tourist thronged and commercial. Go after dark to enjoy the effects of colorful neon signs. The reflections off the water is captivating.
Exciting for children that are into rides. You hear them shreaking as they ride on the rooler-coasters, gyro loops and the pirate ship. Artists demonstrate their craft as tourist watch.
A lone musician strummed his guitar, belting out Mexican songs as half a dozen tourists danced
the salsa. Love that aroma of freshly popped pop-corn.

The end of the dock is lined almost shoulder-to-shoulder with folks night fishing.

The weather was perfect when we went to Santa Monica Pier. The view was great and we took lots of photos with the rides on the Pier just like what is on TV and the movies. We hired push bikes from a hire shop on the Pier for $10 per hour and rode on the bikeway from Santa Monica to Venice Beach. It was so much fun and so safe and lots of families were enjoying the experience too. We went on a Tuesday lunch time so it was pretty quiet on the boardwalk at Venice Beach and it's looking pretty run down. We just enjoyed the view of the boardwalk and the beach and didn't feel the need to stop to look at anything. We returned the bike just on the hour and then went shopping to Third Street Promenade. A totally enjoyable outing for us.

There are a lot of shops, artists, food, and people. Fun to see the people. The beach was the best part. Parking was easy. Too much too see and much of it repititious.

We live in L.A. and do regular bicycle rides down the bike path from Pacific Palisades thru Santa Monica toward Venice Beach. The pier is always welcome and fun to squeeze in an occasional Ferris Wheel ride (my favorite) or Free summer concert, a restaurant visit for seafood etc. The salty beach air inhaled feels def. great when you're in Los Angeles. Also very fun at night - GO to the pier! :-)

We went on a Monday evening! The pier has Restaurants, fast food, ice cream, beach shops, and an amusement park. It overlooks the Ocean, and is beautiful and romantic too! It is the end of Historic Route 66, for travelers of the "Mother Road". A great place for families, couples, or friends!
