“Just a Great Place with Great Staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

We scored the best room in the place for $119 a night. It was a suite with fireplace, large jacuzzi tub, a full kitchen and a great view. The staff was great, there is a nice restaurant on site, a really nice gift shop with a very amiable owner and a wine cellar, along with numerous others shops. We only stood there 1 night so I'm not sure what there is to do in Santa Maria but I would have been very happy just to mill around town and spend a week or so in that room with my loved one.

Room Tip: If you're coming here book well in advance and ask for room 671., The Vineros Suite

Thanks for sharing! You are correct, that is one of the best rooms we have to offer and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed it to the fullest, if only for one night. When you return to the area, inquire about our Wine Passport Package, it offers overnight accommodations, picnic boxed lunch for two, complimentary tastings along our amazing wine trail and breakfast for two in the morning. Our very own Foxen Canyon Wine Trail is breathtaking and our staff will welcome you back with open arms. If you have some time, pay us a visit!

My sister selected this hotel to house the wedding party and guests for her wedding and we're so glad she did! We had a HUGE family room in the newer section and had ample amounts of space to sort out all our wedding paraphernalia, press dresses, etc and visit with family. We all enjoyed the big pool, set back by a garden, and also hosted a bridesmaid's luncheon in the restaurant--a lovely setting for a slightly formal lunch with delicious salads. The housekeeping staff made an extra effort to nicely arrange the children's stuffed animals which made them smile and they kept us in fresh towels which always seems to be a challenge for other hotels for family rooms. I HIGHLY recommend this for a family stay and our friends traveling solo who stayed in the old part said that they loved their movie star rooms. A California gem!

Stayed in the older section for two nights while attending a reunion. The room was great, though a tad small compared to the newer section, but we loved it! Bedding was wonderful, and the service was great. Even thouse our room faced the side street the noise was minimal. Enjoyed the bar with live entertainment at night (free popcorn) and decent prices. Friends who ordered several items from room service were astounded at the quality/presentation of the food (great burgers).

Room Tip: If you can afford it, you might really enjoy the Charlie Chaplin room with a nice patio overlooking...

My family has stayed at this Magical property many times and most recently in august 2012 . They have brought back the classic of an elegant hotel in the old grand style. But it has a very country home feel. The old part of the hotel is just dripping with history. Every old time movie star stayed there on the way to frisco in the day. Santa Maria is a wonderful town amidst fields of strawberries so big they will blow your mind. They also have wine vineyards and wine tasting. If you do visit do not miss the world famous BBQ tri-tip it has few equals

Room Tip: All suites in tower are wonderful and the suites in the old hotel are cool. the garden is magical.

If you are driving between LA and San Francisco on Hwy. 101 and would like a peaceful, interesting place to stay, this is it. My husband and I drove up Highway 1 from Malibu and stayed at the Santa Maria Inn. Our room was very clean, comfortable and a great value. We were able to get it for $83 + tax on Priceline. We enjoyed a nice cocktail in the Wine Cellar and had dinner in the Tap Room. Everything was great - including complimentary appetizers in the Wine Cellar. Service was a bit slow in the Tap Room but they were very busy and our server was delightful. History buffs will especially enjoy this hotel. Our room was across the hall from a room where Marilyn Monroe had stayed.

Thank you for your review! It is great that you recommend our property for a stay while traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco as that is the reason we had so many stars stay at our Inn. It was a stopover for celebrities traveling from Los Angeles to Hearst Castle. It sounds like you were able to enjoy some of our many amenities and we appreciate you sharing your experience!

I made lunch reservations for the Garden Room, mentioned my sister had just gotten engaged so we were shopping for wedding dresses and would like champagne with lunch. When we arrived, the table was labeled "Reserved", set up with the finest china, linen, champagne flutes with a strawberry in each, and elegant, simple roses in a vase. The servers were incredibly friendly, helpful and engaging without being intrusive in the least. It was the perfect setting, the food was delicious, and service was the finest. Thank you Santa Maria Inn staff for making a wonderful day even more memorable!

I stay here about twice a year and enjoy the Inn. It is comfortable and I usually get a good rate on Expedia. The hallways are usually kind of loud due to the age I the hotel but I've never had any issues after dark.

Thank you for your review and thank you for being a continued and valued guest of our hotel. We are grateful you enjoy your stays with us and are comfortable sharing your feedback. The Inn does have a rich history and will be celebrating it's 100th birthdayin a few years. There are some imperfections that come with age, but we feel proud to have such a great property to share with guests like you!
