Based on its high ratings by other reviewers, we decided to go here to eat on a recent house-hunting trip to Santa Maria. We had our dog with us and they had an "outside patio" which we needed plus the online menu looked very good. To say this was a disappointment is an understatement. First of all, it is located at the end of a not-too-shopping center and the surrounding area isn't very inviting either. Second, the "patio" is basically a sidewalk in front of the cafe with a couple of very cheap white plastic tables and chairs that were so filthy that we asked the Mgr if he could bring a table from inside so we could use that. That was no problem because there were ZERO customers in this rather large space (room for 30-40 tables) at the time. This was about 7:30 on a Sat night, and they did close at 8:00, but still - you wonder how can they stay in business with no customers on a typical eat-out night.... Even with no customers, and two of them behind the counter, the service wasn't great. They didn't bother asking us how the food was, which we would have told them had they asked. And the answer is: the food was very disappointing. My chicken and walnut sandwich was basically walnuts and bread and the little chicken that was in it was dry and chewy. Ditto my wife's salad which was almost 1/3 very strong purple onions. I had never seen so many onions in a salad. We paid the bill and left. While they were pleasant, I can readily see why we were the only customers there.
