We had heard nothing but good things about this place and they were all true. A casual western atmosphere with inside and patio dining. The weather was perfect so we opted for the patio. The waitstaff were a delight and the menu offered us plenty of choices. We started our meal with the garden salad. It consisted of baby greens, goat cheese, walnutts, beet & carrot curls with balsamic vinegrette. One of the best dressed salads I have ever had in a restaurant. The entrees were generous. I had the rib eye and my friend had the filet of beef. Both came with veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. We did not leave hungry.Wines may be purchased by the glass. The dessert menu looked devine but we had no room left. If you are anywhere near Santa Margarita you would be foolish not to have dinner here. Pricey but worth every penny. NO credit cards accepted. Have plenty of cash on hand. Chef Jeff and his wife have themselves a real winner!

We've been going to The Range since it opened 7 years ago and have always been more than satisfied with the consistently great food (good sized portions) and warm, welcoming and attentive service. It's definitely worth a trip to Santa Margarita for anything on the menu let alone Chef Jeff's "special"! P.S. Credit cards are not accepted.

We went as a party of four on a Thursday night and came away less impressed than the first time we ate here six months ago. I should preface my comments by saying that the restaurant was full and included two large parties. Our server never seemed to stop moving and yet the service was slow. We waited ten minutes after being seated to place our wine order and fifteen minutes passed after asking for the check before the bill arrived. As for the food, the basalmic beet appetizer was novel but somewhat strong in a flavor that tasted like clove. The wedge salads were good. There were four types of bread which were all delicious. One member of our party ordered the special, southern fried chicken legs and was disappointed by the flavor given the price. The person who ordered the pork chop plate was very pleased. My wife and I tried the elk medallions topped with a cherry sauce and served with a large quantity of squash and zucchini and mashed potatoes. The elk was somewhat over cooked and the sauce lacked sufficient flavor to make the meat interesting. If we come again i'll try the steak. The wine selection was good and the wines were reasonably priced. The lack of a full bar and the cash only policy were minor annoyances.

Great food. Always. Pricey and they don't accept credit cards, but it is an experience. Very small and quaint. Great service, impeccably gourmet food.

The owner of Casa Sagrada in Santa Margarita recommended that we try this small, cozy restaurant in town. We scoped it out and were entranced by the menu. After a quick stop at a nearby ATM (they only accepted cash) and an early visit (they don't take reservations), we proceded to enjoy a wonderful--even more so for being unexpected--dinner. The restaurant itself is small--although there is semi-outdoor seating--and decorated in a fun, off-beat way. The menu is surprisingly diverse for such an out-of-the way place and absolutely enticing. We shared a wonderful appetizer dip that was spicey yet rich and satisfying. I had rack of lamb and my husband enjoyed a wonderful beef dish: both were cooked perfectly and came with a generous serving of vegetables. The wine list is excellent as well, and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. We couldn't have had a nicer, more delicious experience. We've been plotting a trip back to enjoy the experience all over again.
