“location is the whole thing”

We stayed in the King Ocean Suite #6. The staff were friendly, but disappeared from about 10PM to nearly 8AM. This is indeed the perfect location for walking out on the wharf or on the boardwalk. The beach volleyball courts are just feet away. The view is marvelous. Since it overlooks the frontage road, it is a bit noisy. The sea lions at the wharf make a real racket at dawn, which we liked, actually. The attached Thai Restaurant, smelled good, though we did not try it. There's plenty of options on the wharf if you want to take a walk out there. The continental breakfast is pretty minimal, but did its job. Now the room. Had to go down lots of stairs; not easily accessible. It had a nice balcony, table, and chairs for watching the beach. The property is very old and not recently updated. It is a combination of old time ambience and funky. Security latches were outdated and probably ineffectual. The bed was big and OK. The bathroom was a bit cramped, but OK. The kitchenette might be good for some, but we did not need it. The refrigerator ran constantly and loudly. If this was in a poor location, this room would not be acceptable to me. But, the location is the whole thing, so I kind of liked it.

I was excited to stay in Santa Cruz, book a lovely expensive hotel to treat myself. Arrived early, wax able to check in with an additional cost. Okay, no worries I am on vacation. Hot water didn't work in the shower, well took 10 minutes to get warm :/ then the next day no hot water. Room is over stuffed with furniture. Makes it feel like home but there is no need for 3 chairs, no outlets for items to charge. Overall way over priced for what you get.

A pleasant surprise to our family road trip. We arrived to check in and got upgraded to this lovely suite. A panoramic view of the beach board walk and promenade. To wake to the sound of waves and barking sea lions, opening your eyes and seeing the dark wooden beams on the ceiling,I can see why it is the captain's suite!

Overall, I enjoyed my stay here. It's an older building so be prepared for creaky floors and water that takes a while to heat up, but otherwise, it was very clean, quaint, and had lovely views.
All things considered, I would definitely stay here again :)

I called and asked for a non pet room. When we got there they only had pet friendly rooms.
When I went to turn the fan on above our bed it was full of dust balls. Looked like it had not been cleaned for a year. I cleaned it myself just so I could use it.
The floor looked like it needed to be swept.
We stayed two nights. We were in and out of the room and it never ended up getting cleaned by room service. We came back later at night and had to go get towels from the front desk.

I loved this hotel. My daughter and I needed a place to stay between homes and it was so peaceful and tranquil in one of the quaint buildings in the back of the property. Bedding was super comfortable. Get breakfast somewhere else....continental breakfast was lacking.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the beach. Plan a trip when the school is in session for better price...

Location was right on the beach, both windows had great view of ocean! Only thing I would hope for, for next time, is a full length mirror in the room.
Room service was below average, requests took a long time to get with us having to walk down and get the items ourselves.
