“Dog friendly B&B”
Reviewed July 4, 2008

We just recently stayed at this Bed and Breakfast along with our golden retriever. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and Dale and Sitah were the most gracious hosts. We stayed in the Garden Room which had it own private hot tub and patio which our dog loved. The breakfast was excellent and served outside among the redwoods and scenic and peaceful surroundings. I highly recommend this wonderful B&B for those with dogs and for those without. It was truly a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

After reading all the great reviews we took a chance and booked the Garden room for a short getaway from San Francisco. What a fantastic place! So much charm, beautiful surroundings, secluded yet only 15-20 minutes from Santa Cruz. This was a perfect romantic retreat and a welcome change from all the generic, depressing hotels in the downtown Santa Cruz area. We loved the private outdoor hot tub and the fireplace in our room. The hosts are very charming and Sitah is very skilled in the culinary arts! We will be back.

My husband, four-year old son and I reserved the Garden Room at the Redwood Croft after reading the rave reviews of the owners and the property. After road tripping for three days north from Los Angeles, we were ready to settle down at the "croft" and take it easy. We were instantly transported to privacy, comfort and mother nature. The Garden Room was perfect for our family. The fireplace warmed our room, while our son set up the loft with his toys and books. The bathtub is perfect for soaking after a long trip. The following morning, we enjoyed very generous portions of fruit, freshly baked breads, coffee and your hearty bacon and eggs fare. We played on the trampoline for at least two hours, only stopping to lounge on the hammocks. Just across the road was a school playground, where we played ball and played on the apparatus. The grounds were beautiful, peaceful and welcoming. Saving the best for last, the owners were very accommodating and gracious. They pointed us in the right direction for local attractions and eateries (ask them about their favorite beach). We highly reccommend the restaurants in Felton. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we hope to go back and settle in for a week! If we hadn't done anything else in Santa Cruz, the Redwood Croft would have been enough.

We loved Redwood Croft the moment we saw our room. We stayed in the Garden Room which was very tastefully decorated with a real country feel. I also liked the fact that they had locally sourced toiletries from the lavender farm a couple of miles away. We also had a fantastic outdoor spa bath which was great fun to use.
This place was a welcome dose of character amongst plenty of other soleless chain hotels that are on offer.

The owners were very friendly and cooked the most amazing breakfast. YUM. Unfortunately we were only booked for 1 night, but if we were to return, we would definitely stay longer and try out some of the walks they recommended nearby.

  • Liked — The tasteful decor which gave it tons of atmosphere and really cosy
  • Disliked — the bed was a little soft for our liking

I can't rave enough about Redwood Croft. Take my advice: this is the place to go. My husband and I were there with another couple (his parents) for a couple of nights in October.

We stayed first in the little cabin (which was not quite finished but they were nice enough to let us use it anyway) and then in the Garden Room. His parents stayed in the East Room (I think it was called).

CABIN: The cabin was so cozy - I think it will be a great spot once they get it all set up and ready for regualr guests.

GARDEN ROOM: And the Garden Room was awesome. I felt like a little kid in a treehouse, for some reason. It had a big comfy bed, a fireplace, a loft with another bed up there (hence the treehouse-type feel), skylights, and wonderful details throughout. I won't ruin the surprises by describing them all!

GARDEN HOT TUB: But one thing that you must know: There is a private outdoor hot-tub with this room. Take my advice: enjoy the hot tub at night when it is cool out and the zillions of stars are out. It is such an amazing experience. It is so clear that you can see the line of the Milky Way across the sky, while soaking in the bubbly!

EAST ROOM: His parents really loved this room. So many skylights! And a romantic fireplace, a huge stone tub for deep soaking. Comfy bed. And so charming, so many great and unique details.

ETC: The breakfasts were absolutely delicious, the service was outstanding, the ambiance like no place else. You really really really have to check it out. Especially if you want something romantic, woodsy, peaceful.

Recommendation: Wander around the grounds a bit... You'll find some surprises in the woods... Especially if you like trampolining, swinging, hammocking, etc.

Again, we had a wonderful time and highly recommend Redwood Croft to everyone!

We stayed at Redwood Croft with our two teenage sons for four nights in August this year. The boys thought it was the best place they had ever stayed at; we'd agree! The house itself is idyllic, in a sunny position in the hills. There is plenty to keep kids of all ages amused - table tennis, trampoline, swing, hammocks, hot tub. You feel able to be around during the day, and not just for the most amazing breakfasts ever ( no need for lunch!). Dale & Sitah are wonderful hosts and are happy to let you share in their wonderful home & lifestyle. The rooms are lovely, welcoming and very comfortable - all the little details do not go unnoticed: you really do feel at home. We would wholeheartedly recommend Redwood croft to anybody.

The owners of Redwood Croft, Dale and Sitah (and dog "spinner") are the parents we wish we had. The meticulous grounds, attention to detail, and hospitality far exceed any expectations. We just returned yesterday from a 2 night stay and feel completely rejuvinated. This was our 3rd time and it keeps getting better. We stayed in the East Room which is now our favorite. If you are a couple and want to get away and show your partner a fabulous time, THIS IS IT! To top it off its dog friendly!! Redwood Croft is romantic, peaceful, and friendly. We also love the breakfast in the morning which make this an all around great experience. Enjoy!!!
