“Walk to the beach & bring earplugs.”
Reviewed July 24, 2008

I have never met a motel owner or operator more gracious and hospitable than Ann -- and the Twin Lakes beach a block away is a dream. We had a studio (#7) and the room was beautifully appointed -- clean, redone wood floors, tasteful granite surfaces, tiny but useable kitchenette, good feel, good shower, comfortable bed. Great taste. We got an early check-in and a late check-out -- she was very flexible. The only problem we had was noise at night --- it's right on a busy street, and our studio was the closest to the road. Even with earplugs I didn't sleep well.
Nevertheless we will come back --- you walk a block down 14th street, through a quiet residential beach neighborhood, and you're on a beach, walk right and watch the pelicans sail overhead and the yachts come into the harbor near the lighthouse. No honky-tonk, tranquil, non-tourist feel. Grille there called the Crows Nest has great views, okay food, cheaper upstairs, same menu. N
Next time we'll take a more expensive 1-br because those bedrooms are more insulated from the road. Bring your earplugs.

We stayed here our last night in California, and Pelican Point was one of our favorites. You drive into a pretty basic motel but then open the door to a beautiful suite (and they're all suites, it turns out). By far the nicest kitchen and bath of our trip. And we stayed at some pretty upscale places.

We ended up leaving a precious item in our room. Our hostess, Ann, was more than happy to send it back priority mail. Have received no such service at far pricier places, and couldn't ask for more. This is a wonderful place!

We stayed there for just one night. At first they put us in a suite (#10) with separate bedroom behind the office. It was a very odd layout and the noise from the office was clear as a bell. When we moved in (late afternoon) I went to put food in the fridge and it was fully stocked. Turns out a family member had moved out a week earlier and they were just staring to rent it. There was no TV in the bedroom, the bed was REALLY high off the ground and the living room had no couch so there was no real place to relax to watch TV. Since it was cold that was going to be a problem. I rarely ever complain but asked to be moved and they took us to room 7 instead. It was much more comfortable for us though, and across and away from the office. This was just a standard room with very small but functional kitchen area and small bathroom. They provide coffee, conditioning shampoo, a microwave and small fridge etc.. Don't expect spa type toiletries. Road noise is pretty significant, and probably is in every room. It is right on East Cliff which I knew, but sort of a busy part, not the quiet residential area. This room had the stairs to the 2 upstairs rooms attached to it's outside wall and the girl who arrived around 9 was stomping like a baby elephant. I gave the the requisite glare from my entry but she didn't catch a clue. I didn't push it as she had the upper hand and upper room and could have made things much worse. She was back at it around 7:30 in the morning. The place and room were very clean and the staff very nice but I don't think I would go back. There are just better places for us I'm sure, and a pool etc.. would be much better for a family with kids. It is in an OK spot with some small restaurants and stores nearby, and the beach is about a 2 block walk. You can walk to the yacht harbor and Crow's Nest restaurant in about 10-15 minutes from here as well. BTW the Bella Notte is right next door and looked nice, but must have some road noise issues as well unless it is more heavily insolated. It may be because the building looked new. It is set back just a little farther from the road as well. If you go to the Pelican Point ask for rooms 8 or 9 (upstairs) or 2-5 (downstairs facing street with nobody above. 6 and 7 have rooms above and you will hear them for sure, 10 might be good for a family soon if they resolve the office noise and layout issues, and 1 is also next to the office so there may be noise issues but I can't say from experience. If the office can be heard so clearly from 10 then they will certainly be able to hear you just as clearly. This is not ideal for a 1 night romantic getaway if you know what I mean. Summary, not a dump at all like many in Santa Cruz, super nice people, decent location, noisy, basic but clean.

The Pelican Point Inn was a very refreshing hotel experience in Santa Cruz. As Santa Cruz is one of my favorite places to visit, I've stayed at a few hotels and let's just say that Santa Cruz isn't know for it's hotels! Most are over priced and a bit on the grungy side. Not the Pelican Point Inn! It's super cute exterior and outstanding location (so close to great bon fire beaches, the boardwalk, and about 10 minutes from downtown) made this trip very memorable. We had a studio room which included a kitchenette, microwave, cable TV, DVD player, and in room therostat. The room was a bit small, but comfortable enough for a couple or a single guest. There was plenty of parking and the room was super, super clean! Nothing was fancy, but everything was nice, clean and well maintained. I'll definitely be staying here again! In addition the prices were very reasonable and the hotel staff were very nice. This place doesn't have a website, yet. Which made me a little concerned about staying somewhere sight unseen, but rest assured, the Pelican Point Inn is a great, simple and clean hotel where any beach gower will feel right at home.

You pull up and it's a roadside inn, in the old school style. BUT: the rooms are remodeled with bamboo hardwood floors, kitchenettes with marble counter-tops, and very nice furniture and area rugs. The inn is one block from the Pacific Ocean (a beautiful public State Park Beach). The inn is incredibly clean, the the hosts show fantastic hospitiality. I can't wait to visit again!

We stayed at the Pelican Point Inn last week and I would like to express how happy we were with the motel and the management.

We traveled from San Diego to San Francisco (up the Pacific Coast) and stayed at a different area each night.

The Pelican is a great bargain. It is very clean, has a kitchen, living room , bath and bedroom and is a block from the ocean.

The lady that owns the place is very nice and professional and helped with any thing that we asked.

I would stay here again without a second thought. We stayed mostly in luxurious Marriotts during this trip and my husband really loved this efficient place and area as well as any!

You will not be sorry if you reserve an efficiency at this place. It is a SUPER BARGAIN.
