The first thing we noticed was that the only thing the Bay Front Inn "fronts" is a surf shop and a busy street--the "bay" is nowhere to be seen. Also, the advertised "1 1/2 blocks to beach" is actually 3 long blocks.

Then there is the coffin-sized room with the air conditioner conveniently located down a short hallway in the bathroom underneath a counter held up by a raw, unfinished 2X4. Also, for reasons unfathomable to each of us, the bathroom door had been sawed off leaving a full 8" of space at the top and bottom.

The only chair, and a sorry one at that, was in the closet...yep, you heard me...in the closet. The wallpaper in the bathroom was terribly distressed and the shower cap was, oddly enough, from Day's Inn.

On the plus side, it was clean and quiet; the bed was OK (if you didn't mind kind of rolling toward the center of the mattress); the TV was larger than most and the cable channels plentiful; and once you got over the deceptive claim of the 1 1/2 blocks to the beach thing, the beach was quite accessable as was the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf.

The $107.00 we paid on a Wednesday night exceeded the room's value, but is definitely in line with other beach side properties.

Good location for visiting Santa Cruz waterfront and city center with reasonably friendly staff, but avoid if moldy showers and rodents scurrying around in the roof rafters above the ceiling might bother you. Yuck!

I Loved this Hotel, First it's only a few blocks away from the Beach, wharf, and downtown. Plus great features: Pool, Wireless, Dsl. Clean rooms, friendly service, and location keeps me coming back. Near restaurants and next to a bicycle rental.

Don't bother staying at this "not that close to the bay" Bay Front Hotel. The rooms are small, the wallpaper smells musty and there are no bathtubs, only showers. The "continental breakfast" consists of orange juice, coffee and some store-bought pastries in plastic wrapping. The staff was very unfriendly and the pool was not open for use.

Motel 6 is a Hilton compared against this one. The name is missed leading it’s about 4 blocks away from the bay. Rooms are really small!! There are other motels in the bay are that are a lot better and cost lest.
