I have been going to Zach's for > 30 years. They have the best sour dough pancakes in the Bay area. That being said, there are a few other things on the menu to "be-a-aware" of. Breakfast potatoes are so-so. Coffee average to above (can't understand why they don't have espressos or a good french roast)? Coffee cakes are good. Apple sausage good, Miguel’s salsa great!
Thier servingf staff have always been excellent....

Terrific breakfast and look forward to lunch soon as these are the only two meals they serve. I had the Artichoke Frittata and my husband had the Chili and Eggs. Wasn't wild about the cornbread that came with his dish - too moist and cake like with whole corn kernels. Loved my bran muffin, though - nice homemade taste and texture. Can get crowded so go early.

Unique place in downtown Santa Cruz. Simple and casual environment, but staff is very friendly and the breakfast very yummy. They have homemade soup, coffee cake and salsa that changes daily. While it can get busy, they have a waiting area in the back left corner of the restaurant where they serve coffee while you wait. We were more than pleased with the breakfast and will surely return!

The breakfast potatoes had excellent seasoning (curry I think). They were nicely charred, which made them crispy, although the kids wouldn't touch them. My son raved about the bacon and cheddar omelete (loaded with bacon). My youngest had the micky pancake, with yummy fruit and whip cream decor. The coffee was the best we had all week while staying in SC. Bold and flavorful. The hash was a hit! Great fresh fruit, and superb, friendly service. Oh, and the OJ was fresh squeezed - priciest part of the meal, but so worth it.

They say a bit of the hair of the dog is good for what ales you, but I prefer a hearty meal at Zachary's washed down with a cup of black coffee and my favorite breakfast cocktail of all time--the snake bight. This odd-sounding concoction of Champaign and Guinness always gets the blood flowing again after an evening of excessive celebration. It is the reason to eat at Zachary's.
