This Italian eatery is in a former KFC on Mission St. This is a simple Italian restaurant and cafe with a great variety of Italian pastas, pizzas, & other Italian specialties including salads and panini. This is a sister restaurant of Caffe Lucio and is run by local Italian chef Lucio Fanni and his wife (hence the name Mamma Lucia). This is designed as a fast food alternative - taking an American fast food restaurant and completely changing the concept to freshly made Italian food with organic ingredients - I think Jamie Oliver and his Food Revolution would think this was a pretty good conversion to something healthier!
This is basic Italian food - nothing fancy about it - but it is very good food, plus the portions are good sized for the price. The menu has lots of choices, and it is perfect for to-go or dine in. They also have a kids play area that is used by lots of the little ones. This is our sons favorite place to eat.
We have tried many items on the menu, but have yet to try everything (don't know if we ever will). We really like the pasta bolognese, the eggplant parm, the french fries with rosemary, and couple of their pizzas. Salads are also decent and they have a modestly priced wine and beer list. We have only visited for lunch or dinner.
