I stayed here for 3 nights in January 09, and it served my purposes ok. Santa Cruz is not a place for amazing hotels, so I was pleased to get a good rate on the room.
The woman who served me at reception though couldn't have been a worse advert for the hotel - she seemed genuinely upset that I had arrived, refused to check me in a couple hours early, and refused even to let me leave my bags behind the desk or in an office for a couple hours.
The room seemed clean enough - the bed and bathroom seemed fine, not sure about the floor, but I didn't notice anything particularly bad.
The electrics in the room were definitely suspect though - at least one socket (and a bedside light) were not fixed to the wall properly at all, and one bedside light actually started buzzing and flickering on and off when I tried to switch it on in the morning. Carefully switched off with a shoe!
In short, if you want a really good rate close to the main shopping street in Santa Cruz, it's worth a look - but you'd better be prepared for questionable electrics, and below-indifferent service.More
