It was beautiful, it was fun and great times even for little kids. Train conductor was friendly and informative. We did the Santa Cruz mountains next time we are talking it to Santa Cruz beach.

Train rides up the hill and thru the redwoods giants across threstles suspended in air.. This is steam and exciting in sight and sound. Can walk over in Cowell redwood park for a inspiring meander thru the almost three hundred feet tall trees. The railroad has station. stores, BBQ area and picnic tables. Many special events are scheduled from time to time. Currently the Christmas train goes through the forest to the beach in Santa Cruz. I've been there a hundred times and still marvel at its uniqueness. I can hear the steam whistle from my house and each time I stop and reminesce about my childhood. My wish is to go another hundred times.

I've been to Roaring Camp with children and adults from out of town. The train ride through the redwoods is amazing, both for the engineering of the uphill portion and the beauty of the trees. Roaring Camp has themed weekends that offer many activities, such as egg hunting for Easter and old-time fashion shows for Mother's Day. It's a fun place for locals even if you don't have the excuse of an out of town visitor to take there!

The docents wear period costume, the engineers are helpful. The scenery is beautiful. In summer there is a BBQ area. The General Store has engineering outfits and there is also a tiny Thomas Train for the kids to watch go around a small track in a display case. There are restrooms, a take out food area; and plenty of parking. Go across the tracks to the Henry Cowell park and nature center and check out the gift store. Riding the old train is fun! There is even a large hall for special events.
