“Another great stay”
Reviewed July 17, 2011

We have been staying at the Ocean Pacific for the past 5 years. Its got everything you need and plus walking distance to everything. Very friendly staff. Good continental breakfast with waffles. We love staying in the Jr. Suite so the teens have their own separate room with TV.

Room conditions were pretty sad and run down. This used to be a very nice place to stay, but it's not nice anymore. The bathroom had peeling wallpaper, moldy grout around the shower enclosure, cracked tile on the floor and needed redoing. Weird smell in the room. Don't leave anything behind, you probably won't get it back. Called 3 times looking for items I left (my bad) in a drawer and e-mailed them once. No reply to anything. They finally told me after my 3rd phone call to them that if they didn't contact me that the items were not found. Someone took them!

Room Tip: Try somewhere else in town

Having a pet we were located on the first floor. The room smelled awful, the bed had fleas and there were patched holes in the walls. ALL NIGHT you could hear "horses galloping" over head. NOISY NOISY Shoddy construction - Upon complaining after 10pm, the front desk told us too bad and did not care if we ever returned or wrote a negative review. BUT at 10:30pm the manager said we could check out and he would refund our $$. Riiighhht!! Speaking to other guests the upon our checking out, we all shared the SAME experience. We all agreed at $200/night it would be better to sleep in our cars. A guest said the Bayview Inn next door was MUCH cleaner friendlier place.

My daughter and I stayed for the weekend at the Ocean Pacific Lodge. It is close enough to old downtown Santa Cruz to be easily accessible without the noise.
The room was clean with nice queen beds and linens, working fridge and microwave, adequate storage and plenty of towels. Having been to Santa Cruz many times, we both agreed that the hotel's amenities were more than we expected for the price paid. Free parking, Wifi, breakfast and excellent staff made our stay easy and enjoyable. We will look forward to our next stay at this hotel.

The position of this hotel is great, free parking, free internet, free breakfast which was one of the best I ever had in a motel, the staff was extremely kind when I made them notice that the room hadn't been clean properly they made it clean again but unfortunately it was possible just the day after......so actually we spent the first night with everything packed in our bags since we didn't want to mix our clean clothes with hair of other people and .....

I read some bad reviews on this place and I'm so glad I didn't let them sway my decision to say here.

We stayed here Friday-Sunday and got a regular room with a queen bed. We were pleasantly surprised by the clean and nice carpets as well as all the other things that the hotel room came with, microwave, fridge with separate freezer. TV was nice too. I was shocked there was an iron in the room and that we didn't have to get it from the front desk. haha!

The boardwalk is within walking distance. I loved it!! We will definitely go back there next time we're in Santa Cruz.

We were there midweek and got a great price directly from the hotel (almost a steal) on our room for 3 nights. The location is perfect, a short walk to both the boardwalk and downtown Santa Cruz. Either walk can be accomplished in sandals. We felt totally comfortable walking even at night though there can be some shady looking characters. There is also a turf soccer field right there, so bring a ball if you like to play on a nice turf field. The pool and hot tubs were fine, complimentary continental breakfast simple but okay for what we paid. OJ, cranberry juice, waffles, cereals, fruit, tea coffee and milk.
The hotel is pet friendly but just on the 1st floor. We stayed on the 2nd and were fine walking barefoot on the carpet, no problems. Little things like peeling wallpaper at the edges or a broken shower title might have bugged me if I was paying more, but at such a great price I actually expect minor imperfections. Beds were comfy.
There was some construction of a new roundabout out front, so the noise level in the morning was higher than we wanted, and the walls are pretty thin so on a weekend it might be a bit tougher to sleep. Earplugs and 3rd floor rooms for light sleepers might be wise.
Wifi reception was excellent, had 3 laptops working perfectly in our room. Staff was very nice. Room had mini fridge, closet, okay tv, could have had better coffee (Maxwell House).
I love saving money on a hotel, so will definitely check here first next time visiting Santa Cruz, which we really enjoyed.

Room Tip: Went through hotel's website for low $
