“Promised so much but didn't deliver”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

I was really looking forward to this hotel, we had called the night before to book a room, gave a credit card number to hold the room and were assured that all was booked. We arrived to find that we didn't have a booking, thankfully a room was available but at a different rate to what had been quoted. The receptionist quickly adjusted the price to reflect what had been quoted and gave us free parking as compensation.

The room was fine, great ocean views, very comfy beds, very clean, everything worked as it should, decoration was new and fresh. It was very noisy at night, being close to the ice machine made sure we were kept awake frequently, we could have called for another room but as we were staying for just night it seemed not worth the effort.

When we checked out the receptionist had obviously not been made aware of the issues the day before and charged us for parking, she adjusted it when we explained but I dont feel we we should have been explaining this over and over again. Its a small point but having the original hassles on arrival we were possible more sensitive to these things.

To summarize, all the staff individually were fine, it was the organisation, communication (or lack of) and systems that let the hotel down.

I just didn't feel it was worth the money and I cant see any reason that we would return

Room Tip: Ask for a room well away from the ice machine

Thank you for your candid feedback. Promises are worthless unless they are followed through with and given the description of events from your stay we obviously feel short in not only delivering an exceptional experience, but also feel short of our own goals. We would hope to have you back on a future stay to demonstrate the Can-Do attitude and follow through we strive for on a daily basis.

We arrived here after a very long day of travel from a snowy and icy Sequoia National Park. From the moment we arrived, we felt special and cared for! The sound of the surf, the beautiful lights of the bay, the cozy and comfy bed and snacks. We really couldn't have felt better. It is exactly what we needed.

We stayed here for one night with our 4 year old. We loved almost everything about the Dream Inn, we had a great time at the beach, the pool, the hot tub, the restaurant. Service was great. I wish I could give it 5 stars, but I can't due to the fact that none of us got much sleep at night. My complaint is about room we were in Room 1020. There were two problems, our room was right next to the elevator and we could hear the elevator noise all night long. And the AC/heater units in both the living space and the bedroom would turn on and off so noisily that we would wake up every time. So after trying to sleep for a couple of hours we just turned the heater off thinking how cold could it get....and it got COLD!! It was like the insulation was nonexistent. We mentioned it during checkout and the lady at the front desk said we should have called them. What could they have possibly done about an old noisy heater at 2:00 in the morning? We didn't want people in our room checking out the heater in the middle of the night when our son was trying to sleep. They did waive the fee for parking, but it was a really uncomfortable night.

I live in the central coast of California. My husband and I have 4 kids. We have made the 1 or 2 night get away something of a goal of perfection. We have stayed at almost every nice hotel from Cambria to all of the best of the gold country. Recently, we enjoyed the Delta King in Sacramento, a Spa Hotel in Bodega Bay, and all in between. But, never have we had a more perfect stay at a hotel as that we just had at the Dream Inn in Santa Cruz. Everything from the front desk on was perfect. The room was amazing. As we opened the door and saw the beautiful view of the ocean, we were excited. The furnishings were fun, the bathroom beautiful. We enjoyed the private deck for a while, and then escaped to the amazing beach boardwalk, and wharf adjacent to this property. My husband has a bad knee, but everything was so close he was able to get around and enjoy the attractions. We came and went a few times, but the last time we left to have a wonderful meal on the wharf, we returned to the most amazing turn down service we had ever had. The linens were turned down. The curtains were closed. The heat was on, and there was a night light on in the bathroom. There were extra towels, and the garbage had been emptied. The services did not end here. We spent the rest of the night in privacy with the sliding glass open and the sound of the ocean in our dreams. The next morning I called down to tell the valet we would be leaving in 10 minutes. The car was ready and the valet was there waiting to give us any directions we needed and to thank us for our stay. Needless to say, I will return again and again and again. The Dream Inn tops my list for the best hotel in Central California. We stayed there for some really great Central California weather. Next time we will go for a storm coming in. Love this Hotel. 5 stars!!

Stayed a the Dream Inn for two nights in a spacious, well appointed room right on the beach. Fun, funky, this place is very Santa Cruz. Great comfortable beds provided an excellent rest. Cool weather meant we didn't experience the pool but the restaurant was excellent. Two dinners and a breakfast were exceptional. Staff was either lovely, friendly and helpful but in one case it was apparently too difficult to stop working at the computer to properly answer a question. As well, we were a threesome but the room only provided service for two. The Dream Inn is not alone in this but seriously hotels, if you know you will have three in a room, provide towels etc for three people!! It gets frustrating to be calling down each time on arrival to have the room stocked properly. That said, certainly enjoyed the hotel and it provided a great experience in Santa Cruz. When we checked in they made sure to let us know that the first swells of the season had arrived and to ensure we walked down to watch the surfers. Great fun.

We absolutely loved our stay at Dream Inn!

The hotel is located right on the beach, rooms have beautiful ocean view and you can fall asleep and wake up with the sound of the waves crashing on the beach.

The Oceanview Cloud King room was amazing! Beautiful retro-chic decoration, comfortable king-size bed, balcony with views of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and the Wharf, free Wi-Fi, bathrobes and complimentary toiletries.

The on-site restaurant - Aquarius - is fabulous; you can have dinner overlooking the beach and the ocean. It is very reasonably priced and has some good options.

We also used the in-room dining for breakfast; very convenient service and plenty of options, but the quality of the food could have been better.

The staff were very nice and friendly and helped make our stay very enjoyable.

All in all a fantastic experience which we hope to repeat again soon!

I was able to get a early booking discount by booking 2 months in advance when I had no idea what the weather would be like - we got lucky, it was gorgeous.

The pool and hot tub are right above the beach and there is a convenient entrance on the beach (perfect of you are surfing).

The service was good, everyone was very helpful. We did not use room service but prices seemed reasonable and it was great to have the option.

Rooms: The beds were comfortable and in room heat and air worked great. There are coffee makers and fridges in the room. We stayed on the 3rd floor (so that we could check in a little earlier) and it was not as noisy as I thought it would be. I was able to peacefully enjoy the morning sipping on coffee (made in the room) and watching the ocean from my balcony. There are fans on the balcony, great for drying my wetsuit.

The only reason this is not a 5, is because at up to $400 a night, it does seem a bit overpriced, however, that is debatable given it's excellent location, the fact that other less updated and well located hotels are pretty expensive as well.

Thank you for your positive response and feedback! This is a great time of year to visit (especially weekdays) when our rates begin to drop and the weather is still beautiful (Hitting record high's today in the bay area and its the middle of October!) We hope to see you again soon!
