“Utilitarian clean room.”

This is not a fancy place to stay. It is clean. It has two nice matresses and a smallish bathroom. The price is good for the area and if you don't plan on hanging out in the room for any length of time, you will be fine. There is a nice flat screen tv. The breakfast is nothing great-muffins and bad coffee. There is some fresh fruit. The hotel is about a 10 minute drive fr downtown but convenient to all sightseeing areas.

Despite Santa Barbara being an affluent area, Agave Inn are able to offer clean and comfortable rooms for a really good price. Check-in was friendly and very informative, including providing us with a map to show us where we can park along State Street and near to the beach.

The room was cute with nice vibrant colours and a cool framed movie poster on the wall above the bed. The free wi-fi was a massive bonus (if Agave Inn can offer this, what are you playing at Motel 6?).

The only slight drawback was the location; you are going to need a car (or use public transport) in order to get to the centre of Santa Barbara's main social hub. Without a car it would probably take up to 1 1/2 hours to walk to the main parts of State Street and probably 2 hours to get to the beaches. We had a car so this wasn't a problem for us.

Overall, a pleasant and comfortable stay at a welcoming and informative motel!

We felt very fortunate that Agave Inn had the least expensive room available in Santa Barbara in early Aug. The room was perfect for our needs and very nicely decorated. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We loved Santa Barbara - beautiful beaches and lots of history and culture.

My room was lovely- very clean and cute, with a mixture of '60s style chairs and Mexican decor. Free Wi-Fi, a television, mini-fridge and small closet space to hang clothes.

The Inn is located right next to a sushi restaurant, and it only took about ten minutes to walk to their recommended breakfast place, Renaud's (Fantastic!) and Trader Joe's. However, if you want to get to lower State Street and are car-less, it will take you about forty minutes to walk there.

The receptionist was extremely friendly and informative- immediately gave me some business cards for local taxi companies and a map of Santa Barbara when she heard I didn't have a car. When I forgot to check out, she simply called me up that afternoon, not perturbed in the least bit, and asked if I wanted to stay another night or if I would like to check out later that day. So nice! I would stay there again.

Clean, simple rooms with AC and tv etc. Good bathrooms. However, not close enough to walk into town (and that's from a Brit who likes walking everywhere) and rubbish breakfast - chocolate donut and bad coffee isn't the best start to the day. What's wrong with just leaving a packet of cornflakes out - would be less effort and fat more appealing.

We took a spur of the moment weekend trip to Santa Barbara and stopped along the way for lunch, doing a search for an inexpensive, decent hotel we found this cute place. We called in our reservation since we'd be checking in about an hour later and the lady was delightful. Our room was wonderful, it was clean and simple with just enough Mexican and modern decor. Easy convenient parking, friendly staff. Short drive to the pier and State Street shops and restaurants. We'd stay there again.

Ok -- normally, we LOVE supporting smaller indie inns, but something about this place just didn't sit well with me. The location was good, a short little drive to all of the places we wanted to see. The woman who checked us in was fantastic -- so warm and helpful, and gave a great recommendation for the French patisserie across the street (Renaud's -- go there!!!!). The room was bright and clean-ish, but something felt a little dirty to me -- I smelled bug spray in the room, the carpet was old and scary, and the bath products were really basic, so I'd suggest bringing your own -- my hair was a tangled mess after my shower! I know SB can be really expensive, so this place was reasonable at $160, but if we had to do it over again, I would have stayed someplace a little more modest on our PCH trip and booked a nicer place in Santa Barbara. Overall, Agave Inn was so-so...not awful, but not a totally comfortable choice for us.
