Pleasant Stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 23, 2008
My wife's birthday overlaps with Mother's Day weekend, so this year I decided to book a romantic weekend get-away. This particular property was attractive based on TripAdvisor reviews, the price and the proximity to the beach. Overall, we had a pleasant stay which served our purposes.

The property seems to be a renovated motel. There are no enclosed hotel-style hallways; all rooms have doors to a common, outdoors walkway. Almost all of the rooms have the front door facing a central swimming pool. It appeared to us that the property had been recently renovated, at least with fresh interior and exterior paint jobs. Our room had what appeared to be very new appliances and components. The result is that the style of the property seemed a bit aged (think, 1945), but the place seemed clean and fresh. (An exception would be the walkway surrounding the pool, which appeared to have been painted at one time, with portions of the paint peeling -- a minor distraction.)

We stayed in room 128 which featured a king bed, a small but clean bathroom, and a kitchen, complete with stove, frig, and microwave. The front window of the room overlooks the pool, and the back window faces a large playing field, where soccer and baseball games were playing throughout the weekend. The room was nice and comfortable. We could hear the family staying in the room next to ours in the evening of our first night's stay, but they quieted down prior to 10 pm, and we didn't hear them the rest of the weekend.

Every morning guests were invited to visit with Frank, the proprietor, while picking up breakfast items (hard boiled eggs, pastries and other baked goods, coffees, teas) in the lobby to take back to their room. As others have commented, Frank is the real gem of the place -- an extremely gracious fellow.

The hotel is not literally "on the beach" but is pretty close. There is the beach, then a road, then a row of hotels, then a very small street, and then the hotel. We had the feeling that the hotel was sequestered on a back lot.

One of the things we did in Santa Barbara was to go to the SB Zoo, which is right across the field from the hotel -- easy walking distance. We attended a concert at the SB Bowl, which is not too far from the hotel. And, of course, we walked up and down State Street, and also the pier. Santa Barbara is a nice and not too small beach community.

We stayed for 2 nights in May and had a lovely time. Frank the owner couldn't be more helpful or friendly. Our room was very clean, with a huge bed and great facilities. The location is perfect - right across the street from the beach and a short walk into town. Can't recommend it highly enough - we'd love to come back

I stayed here for 3 nights with my girlfriend during the first week of April. I stayed in a suite with a king sized bed, kitchen, and fireplace. Everything was great. Great price, great facilities, great location, great breakfast, great staff. I was originally going to stay at the Mar Monte across the street for more money, but after checking out their rooms and facilities I was glad that I didn't.

The hotel is literally across the street from the beach, and about a 25 minute walk from the pier. There are also electric shuttles to bring you down for 25 cents. My room was big, clean, and very nice. The breakfast in the morning is amazing! Frank has several locaal bakeries and cafes cater the breakfast and the food is diverse and very high quality. All of the food is pre-packed and varies from ham and cheese croissants to scones, cerial, muffins, etc. Many places have 'continental' style breakfasts, but this food was actually very very good. I was impressed.

I found all the staff to be very laid-back, understanding, and cheerful.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting santa barbara. There are places that may be a little more luxorious or extravegent (i.e. the Doubletree down the street), but be ready to pay $200-$300 more per night. I'll see you next year, Frank!

Surrounded by much more expensive properties, this hotel is one short block from the beach. The pier is @ a 15 minute walk. The main downtown is a stretch, but possible on foot. The neighborhood is quiet. The property is "no frills" but the manager, Frank, is just a joy to deal with and a fount of information. He also puts on a great breakfast with pastries and delicious coffees. The breakfast is short on much else. The rooms are ample, comfortable, and ours had a gas powered fireplace which turned out to be very nice on chilly mornings. Most of the rooms have no view except to a rather sterile pool, area. This is not the spot for those on a honeymoon or looking for romance, but for families and retirees it works very well. We will definitely stay here again.....Thanks, Frank!!!!

We set out to stay 2 nights in Santa Barbara at the Inn at East Beach and only just managed to drag ourselves away after 4 nights. The place is clean, friendly and in a great location just off the beach and 15 minutes stroll to State Street.

The owner Frank is the most helpful and pleasant hotel owner I have met and is there to answer all your questions and provide local knowledge. If you are looking for 5 star service and a place to crash your head each night then this is your place,

I hope I can revist Santa Barbara some time soon and when I do there is no doubt where I will be staying again. Thanks Frank!
