“Great hotel”
Reviewed August 12, 2005

My wife and I have just returned to the UK after visiting amongst others this hotel.

Staff were very helpful. The hotel was well maintained and clean The pool wonderful. The location was perfect in terms of seeing around the town and we even had a secure undercover carparking space.

Our room had its own balcony overlooking the ocean and the room itself was extremely comfortable and quiet. We stayed for three nights and were delighted to have chosen our hotel well. No complaints from us- we would return. Good value.

Harborview is a nice hotel in an excellent location. We had a wonderful view over the beach and out Stearns Wharf and the Harbor. Lovely spot, nice large airy room. Still, Harborview leaves some major things to be desired given the supersized price. How can a hotel at this price have such poor beds? The tag on the bed had a manufacture date of 1997 (yes, I looked)! Seriously, I've had better beds for $75 bucks a night. And how can they justify flat short sheets? Do four diamond hotels still have those?

The toilet wasn't working when we checked in. The chain was off. I put it back on, but how did they service the place if the toilet wouldn't flush. Pretty big oversight for a four diamond place. The only way I would let them keep their AAA four diamond ratings is with better attention to details, new beds worthy of the lofty price, fitted sheets and a bit more lush court yard. Three diamonds until those upgrades and that won't justify the price.

I've never stayed in Santa Barbara before, but I can tell you from past experiences at other cities - this is the most overpriced hotel I've ever stayed at. For the over $300/night price that we paid, there was nothing luxurious about it. Sure, it's got a great location near State Street. But spend money on a cab or take the cheap transit buses. You'll definitely have more spending money in the long run. The room was nice and comfortable, but for that price, I would expect a more luxurious hotel.

The Harbor View Inn gives you a pretty nice room in a great location, but it ain't cheap. The vaulted ceilings make the room feel larger. The sliding shutter doors are a nice touch. It's definitely the least luxurious $330/night hotel I have ever stayed in...but the location made the stay worth it.

My husband & I stayed at the Harbor View for 2 days in late June. We loved it. The rooms were very big with a very nice bathroom. Bed was very comfortable. The service there was very personable and accomadating. The one thing we really loved was the location of this hotel. It was across from the pier and close to State street where many of the shops & restaurants are. We loved our time in Santa Barbara, views were just breathtaking. We would definately stay at this hotel again.

We selected this hotel based on the reviews on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. The inn has beautifully landscaped grounds and a very attractive pool area. The buildings are more on the order of a motor inn, but inside they are nicely decorated and very upscale. We'd say the rooms are on a par with a Hyatt Regency.

The room was spacious and located on the third (top) floor. These rooms have vaulted, wood beam ceilings that add to the upscale feel. Our room overlooked a residential area behind the hotel, but we didn't expect a view. The balconies provide no privacy from the neighboring rooms, so we probably wouldn't have used it even with a view.

The bathroom was attractive and very spacious, with a separate room for the shower and toilet. The main part of the bathroom held the sink and bathtub. Toiletries were provided and were of high quality. The closet was stocked with robes, an iron and ironing board.

In the room we had two queen beds with top notch linens. There was an armoire with the TV, video game (for a fee) and a mini bar. There was also a desk and a comfortable chair for reading or lounging. Lighting was more than adequate with several attractive lamps around the room. There was a ceiling fan plus air conditioning that kept a constant temperature.

We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel's restaurant, Eladio's. Both meals were outstanding and the staff very friendly and personable.

We only dealt with the front desk on check-in/out, but they were very pleasant and professional.

The hotel is in a fantastic location at the corner of State St., and Cabrillo Blvd, right across the street from the beach and Stearns Wharf. State Street is where most of the shopping is, so everything is within walking distance.

We would definitely return to this hotel and highly recommend it to anyone.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Harbor View Inn. The location was perfect, the room impeccably clean and welcoming. The Ocean View/Balcony room had a beautiful view of the pool and courtyard as well as the harbor. Very open, yet private.

As a former Santa Barbara resident (25 years ago), I was leary about renting a hotel room and not too sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back! Equally as nice was to find the nearby Enterprise Fish Company to be as good as I recall when I dined there in the 1980's.

Bring your walking shoes because there is much to see and all within a reasonable distance. Public transportation is also available and easy to use.
