“The Best Holiday I Ever Had”
Reviewed February 22, 2009

I must say The Harbor View Inn was one of the amazing hotels i ever stayed in. I stayed here for 1 week in July in 2008 and 2007. The staff was exceptional. They were so helpful and always checking if we needed anything. We stayed here after visiting Las Vegas, and to be honest it was a much appreciated change. The hotel was spotless and the rooms were big and luxurious. Unlike the majority of hotels the hotel restaurant was extremely reasonable and lovely food with a great selection. Even though we stayed there during high season the hotel never became overrun and we could always get sun beds down at the pool. The small gym beside the pool area was small but had everything you needed. The beach was right accross the road and the charming town was only a 5min walk away, perfect location to loads of restaurants and shops.I will definitely be visiting Santa Barbara and this beautiful hotel again.

We booked a room here through Travelocity. When we got to the hotel they did not have a reservation for us -- Travelocity completely messed up! The hotel staff set in motion right away to find us a room. They were sold out that night and only had one room where the A/C wasn't working. We went to check it out and it was fine, in fact, LOVELY. We took the room, they gave us a better rate than Travelocity (who never did ANYTHING to help us in this situation), sent us up a bottle of champagne AND treated us to brunch at the hotel restaurant the next day. Never have we received such wonderful, kind service! And the hotel is GREAT!!!

The hotel has an excellent location just across from the historic pier and ocean. We selected the ocean view room and were not disappointed with the slight increase in price. It was very clean and modern. My wife also enjoyed the spa located within the hotel, it has a hot tub and sauna available for clients to use after their services. I highly recommend this hotel.

On a drive from Vegas to San Francisco, myself and my partner dropped in here on spec. We figured we'd start near the top of the tree and let that be our benchmark in terms of what we were prepared to pay during off season. We were greeted by a really helpful guy at reception who gave us a room for $195 which we figured for good value. The decor of the common areas of the hotel is a bit Golden Girls set but the rooms are huge and tastefully decorated. Having come from the rip-off and soulessness that was Vegas, this was a real breath of fresh air. All the staff in the hotel, including the cleaning staff were cheery and helpful. I believe prices in summer are prohibitive (fair enough) but we got great value for money. The only gripe I would have relates to the attitude of one of the staff members in the adjoining restaurant. It was literally contemptuous. He didn't even look up from using his phone as we left the cheque. All we got was a grunt. No matter - overall the experience rated very highly.

It's not the Biltmore in Montecito, but its the next best thing! We absolutely loved the Harbor View Inn. Right across from the beach and harbor. The room was just really great! Immaculate, nicely decorated, comfortable, walk-in closet and more! I wanted to move in and not go home. Besides Santa Barbara is just great by itself.

I need to start this review with a caveat. Santa Barbara is a fantastic vacation destination with huge demand from nearby Los Angeles, as well as from tourists from all over the world. The hotel stock tends to be disappointing-- flawed in various ways, and always overpriced compared to equivilent accomodations in other California towns.

Given all this, the Harbor View is a very nice, solid, reliable hotel. We have been to Santa Barbara countless times, stayed in various hotels of different classes, up to and including Bacara, and keep coming back to the Harborview. The rooms are very clean and attractively furnished, with comfortable beds and bright, up to date decor. The service is fine, and the location can't be beat. You are steps from the beach, the pier, and a stop for the free shuttle that takes you up State Street. The pool area and garden are attractive. There isn't really anything remarkable about the Harborview; its just better than the competition.

I reserved a room at the Harbor View as a surprise for my boyfriend's birthday. I asked that the staff help me decorate the room with roses and all that good stuff, and they completely came through. The staff was really helpful in planning everything - everyone was so friendly and accommodating.

The hotel itself was comfortable. Our room wasn't pretentious at all, and I'd say the best part about it was that it's walking distance to the wharf and driving distance to State Street. Our room overlooked the beach and had a really nice, private patio where one can lounge and enjoy the sun.

Although I had a wonderful time here, I felt the hotel could use some updating. I'm not sure if it was previously a motel that was converted to a 4-star property, but it gave me that feeling. Also, the room was a bit gloomy for my taste. Overall, we had a lovely time but I'm not sure I'd stay here again.
