“OK for sleeping over ONLY for our Santa Barbara shopping trip”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2012

My daughter and I stayed at the Days Inn on Castillo Street for the sole purpose of it being located close to downtown shopping. It is located a block and a half from the beach; it's an easy walk to the harbor and restaurants from the hotel. If you are planning to spend time at the hotel, don't pick this one. To me it looked like a "motor" inn from the 60's. Do NOT stay in room # 102 right next to the lobby....and the ice machine. Although it is relatively quiet, our "non-smoking room" reeked of smoke. We did get a great deal on the room rate on November 19-20, 2012: $71.00/night. They offer free breakfast in the morning, but it is just fruit, packaged bakery, and coffee/tea. For a very reasonable "Denny's style" breakfast, travel around the corner to "Sambo's" Restaurant on Cabrillo Blvd.; they serve breakfast beginning at 6:30 am and have have outdoor tables for a nice view of the coastline (street is somewhat noisy). We also ate breakfast at Mamalade's on State Street in the La Cumbre shopping center (another great place to shop); the food was fantastic. Most breakfasts were priced at $10.99. For a great sushi lunch or dinner, try Teri's Sushi on Bath Street. It's located in a residential neighborhood in an old cottage-style house. The food is fantastic. For lunch, we went to Blush Restaurant on State Street during a break in shopping. Try it; the menu is minimal, but the food is wonderful...especially the tuna melt sandwich....and service is very fast A great shopping "mall" downtown is Paseo Nuevo, and it is surrounded by great specialty shops up and down State Street. If you're a fan of discount clothing stores, try Marshalls on State Street (3 storeis high) and Ross uptown on State Street. We also shopped 10 minutes north on Fwy. 101 in Goleta. Take the Glen Annie exit and turn left over Fwy. 101 to the Marketplace. There you will find another Ross, Costco, Best Buy, etc. We will definitely shop and eat in Santa Barbara again, but will look for a hotel that is a little more upscale.

Saw the reviews and read that this place was similar to a Motel 6 and it was. Our expectations were not high so we were happy with the accomodations. It is a motel, dated but clean, had a fridge, TV, coffee maker, free internet. Close to the beach and across from park. There is a shower stall and no tub. Only cons - funky room odor when first entering and the thin walls. We were lucky and had quiet neighbors so this was not an issue. Again - this is a low budget motel. If you expect more than that - you will be dissapointed.

Spent 2 nights during middle of the week at the start of our trip. The hotel was well located, close to the beach and a quick drive to other tourist destinations.

Rooms are simple but equipped with a refrigerator and microwave. Our only disappointment was the lack of in-room safe. Otherwise it was exactly what we were looking for at a great price.

Easy walking distance to the pier, many restaurants, and shops. Very clean. Front desk personnel always friendly and helpful. Easy on and off freeway.
