Samantha and staff were all charming and helpful, rooms were small, clean and comfortable. Complimentry breakfast in lobby was very good.
Great recommendations for dinner, at Chuck's. Location is great for beach walks and shopping trips on State Street.
We will be back....

Two of us just finished a four night stay at the Avania. A few thoughts: From the Castillo Street exit of 101, the Avania is located about four minutes drive toward the West Beach. West Beach and the beach biking/ walking route are within an easy ten minute stroll from the hotel, as is State Street, which apparently is the "go to" street in SB. A couple of very good restaurants are in the immediate vicinity on the Fisherman's Pier, and many more restaurants, and lots of good shopping is available on State Street.

We enjoyed the hotel. The sleeping/living area was large, had a small balcony, and arranged so that the sink and vanity were just outside the bathroom which enclosed the toilet and shower. That room was quite small, but the shower worked well. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast ( when we were up in time to make it) was not gourmet, but was certainly good, adequate and plentiful.

Samantha, the on-site manager was very pleasant and helpful. She seems to run a tight, efficient ship behind the scenes, and oversees a friendly, pleasant housekeeping staff.

SB is a beautiful part of the world, and the assets of the Avania helped us enjoy it.

My husband and I stayed for one night last week at this inn and couldn't wait to leave. The carpets were stained and dirty, the rooms had a funny smell and when we tried to open the balcony doors, to air the room out, the frame of the screen door became unhinged. The prices they charged compared to similar hotels was over the top. The color scheme is loud and very
psychedelic.

Samantha was a great manager, very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and helpful with questions. She definitely made our stay much nicer!!! She recommended Chuck's on the pier for dinner and we returned there several times, enjoying all of our meals. The rooms were clean and well-maintained (though not particularly our color scheme), but definitely comfortable. The beds were comfortable too. The location was excellent, very near the ocean, with beautiful surrounding neighborhoods for walking. Walking downtown was fun and interesting. The SB trolley only cost $.25 so we enjoyed that too.

Say what you think but speak as you find!

Let's face it, the Avania Inn is not the Ritz Carlton and does not charge RC prices...However, this place offers really good value. We stayed for 4 days in part to attend a very much 'multi-cultural' wedding with very Scottish overtones - which was great with son and many others in full Scots regalia, a piper and so on!

Our stay at the Avania from outset was very good. They had placed us in a quiet room (as we had requested by email). The room was fine, clean, well maintained and stocked with coffee and toiletries. The small staff were bright and helpful throughout despite being very well occupied - their advice on places to go and especially car hire was much appreciated. Breakfasts were fine, offering more than their 'continental' label. And their wifi internet connection was very useful for keeping in touch with home and friends (our cell phone being out of action).

The car from Enterprise was a blessing for us, giving us a degree of independence and a chance to see more of the region rather than being stuck in town.

Bearing in mind that the weekend in question was an end of term prom for local high school students (lots of high spirited kids and parents) and Santa Barbara's 'Wheels' weekend (plenty of petrol heads parading in their Chevys, Fords, Hot rods etc), the town was crowded and noisy anyway. Though the Avania was full and very busy, all kept their head and it worked out fine.

We intend to return to the Avania at a point in the future to use it as a base to see a little more of the area which is a great contrast to besmogged LA. Overall, a super break for us.

Many thanks to Samantha and the crew for their part in our stay!

Room Tip: Albeit you cannot see the Pacific from the rooms, we thought the rooms facing the coast gave the benefit of the early morning sun and a little shade in the afternoon.
