“turly nasty, racist motel”
Reviewed October 12, 2005

The motel is incredibly unpleasant place. Despite the unsurpassed natural beauty of Santa Barbara, people working at this motel are full of hot air (don't know why there were so rude and arrogant) and nasty attitude. They never took shame in parading their racist attitudes.

The place is in a great location, the rooms are very nice. Everything looks very well maintained, freshly painted, trimmed shrubbery, great balconies. Every morning we watched a team of people test the pool water, check the skimmer, add chemicals needed, brush everything down...EVERY morning. The hotel's restaurant was also a pleasant surprise, homemade soups, food well prepared and fairly priced. We would definitely stay here again...and again. Worth the price, and convenient to everything. We showed up at noon from Las Vegas, three hours before check-in time...no problem. They were very kind and took care of us immediately without any "attitude" other than friendly and helpful. Pretty darned nice. We saw a lot of staff there, housekeeping, maintenance people, groundskeepers, desk and reservations clerks, all smiling and stopping to say hello or to ask if we needed anything. I guess I would have to say we were not expecting any of this, and were very impressed by just about everything.

The 25th July review is very much on the money. Will only add that our room had an inter connecting door with a 1 inch gap at the bottom which made us feel that we were sharing the same room as our neighbours. Given we were only going to stay one night we couldnt be bothered to change rooms.

Santa Barabra is a nice place to visit and if you are looking for a safe, clean place to stay than you might as well stay here as everything else in town is excessively inflated.

Read the Jul 25, 2005 review which is very accurate. I'd like to add that you have wireless Internet access in every room for free.

Try to get a room that is not facing State St. State St is very noisy the whole day!

I have a lot of faith in Trip Advisor and the reviews here have served me very well, so I was surprised to see a Best Western as the 4th best hotel to stay in while visiting Santa Barbara., but decided to give it a shot. It was a Friday night and my wife and I were only spending one night in town and alot of the other hotels in Santana Barbara weren't options due to a two night stay requirement on the weekends. We decided to give the Best Western a shot.

I wish we hadn't. The room was big, but had poor lighting, was decorated in 70's deco and had a seemingly old bedspread. It was clean, but had a dirty feeling to it. The bed seemed old and it didn't necessarily look like the sheets had been changed all that often. They didn't provide us with shampoo or conditioner . The pool looked big, but the jacuzzi wasn't working.

I didn't have much interaction with the front desk, but while I was checking in, they were friendly and quick so that was nice.

It's a Best Western. It's certainly not the best one I have ever stayed in. I don't understand how this can be the 4th highest ranking hotel in Santa Barbara. That isn't possible. There have to be better options than this in town. It wasn't all that inexpensive either.

One more thing, it is a ten minute drive to downtown Santa Barbara, so it's not really all that close to the water or the shopping. It's certainly not walking distance.

Happy hunting...

I stayed at this hotel for one night with my boyfriend during a two week trip up the coast of California. We had a very pleasant stay at the Pepper Tree Inn and were impressed that we were upgraded to the Pepper Suite, the hotel's largest room, without asking and at no extra cost. The only problem was that the screen door fell off the rails when we tried to open it, but was fixed in a matter of minutes once we called the front desk.
