“Great value”
Reviewed August 10, 2009

I was really worried about staying here as it was the cheapest place we had for the fly drive holiday we were doing and the only place available in Santa Barbara when we were there but it was great. Big rooms, very clean and comfortable. It was better than a lot of the other more expensive hotels we stayed in. The pools were lovely and it was quiet. It is a 5-10 min drive to the town which was a bit of a shame but not really an issue. It's a really good cheap option.

We stayed one night en-route between San Francisco and LAX. Found the hotel easily following directions on their web site. Hotel looks really well, nice grounds. Check in was easy with friendly staff.
We had asked ahead of time for the rollaway/futon. It was waiting in room. Room was spacious and clean. Fruit, fridge and free wi-fi all included. Bathroom was clean and ample size for the 4 of us. Safe was too small for anything other than passports and papers.
We used on site restaurant for dinner and breakfast. It was simple food at a good price. Wait staff were pleasant if not the fastest or shapest. Still, we were on holiday, so no problem. Pool was good as was sitting quietly on balcony area.

Staff came into their own the following morning. My son woke with a temperature and we were flying out that night and we were worried about the swine flu thing. The staff directed us to a good nearby medical facitily and help us as much as possible.
We had a great night for a one night stopover.

I just returned from a three night stay at the Best Western Pepper Tree Inn in Santa Barbara. I was in town for a relative's wedding.

Good
- the location seems to be a good one, right on State St. which seems to be a major road for SB.
- grounds are pleasant looking and the hotel really is pretty large... many rooms
- across the street is a pretty big shopping area with some upscale stores, a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Starbucks, and other dining options
- hotel was VERY quiet and relaxing
- it was wonderful to have in-room free Wi-Fi access; plus water, fruit, coffee, a fridge, and a microwave at no extra cost

Bad
- hotel restaurant was OK at best with "Denny's" type food. Very good to poor service, depending on which server you got
- hotel is pretty old; reminded us of the Travelodge type motels of the past
- SB does not seem to have very high temperatures but we still like a cool room; the AC was an old fashioned unit installed in the wall; cooling was minimal and it was pretty noisy when on
- the pool, while large, was not heated; the hot tub was nice though
- bed was uncomfortable; both my wife and I woke up with stiff necks and backs.
- no rollaway or hide-a-bed for our young daughter; instead a futon was provided - basically a four-inch thick foam pad covered in fabric, plus linens - that unfolded and was placed on the floor. I was disappointed but my daughter was delighted... ha!

Good hotel. clean friendly staff. Room basic but everything we needed. Bathroom was clean but quite dated and in need of modernization. This however, is a minor point in an otherwise great hotel

We stayed for one night at this hotel. The decor in the rooms is a little dated, however, there were some nices touches - newspapers, sweets and fruit provided in room, Crabtree and Evelyne toiletries. The reception provided free internet, tea, coffee, juice and fruit all day. The staff were very friendly. There is a small pool, which is heated.

We stayed here for 2 nights in May 2009. The hotel itself is situated about 3 miles from downtown and a cab costs about $15. There is a bus-stop outside the hotel and this takes about 20 minutes to get downtown costing $1.75 each way. There is also free internet in the lobby. The rooms were spacious and clean, with a fridge and good sized bathroom. There were 2 swimming pools and these were both of a good size. There is also a restaurant and bar attached. It provided a good base to explore Santa Barbara but if i were staying any longer, I would have liked to be nearer the downtown area.

I came to this hotel for a friend's wedding that was at The Cold Spring Tavern. That place is something I will mention later. Hotel was perfectly located for our needs. We had to do an early check in and getting rooms for early check in on Saturday about 1 pm can be tight due to folks sleeping in til 12 noon which is check out time. My room and my friend's room and his parents rooms were several rooms apart. The clerk worked very hard getting rooms close together as possible. Got in to the room and I was surprised with the excess amenities in the King room such as fruit, Lorna Doone and bottled water. Room was very clean with older decor and mirrored wall. The bathroom was sparkling clean with brown tiles and had Crabtree and Evelyn shampoo and conditioner and shower cap and bathrobes. WOW!
Room Safes are very dinky. Only good for Passports and small Ipods and wallets. Laptops will not fit in safes. Bed was comfortable and had 5 pillows. My room was way in back which faces a Cemetery and Mausoleum. Guaranteed Quiet there! Rooms have a fridge and some have microwaves. The in room coffee service was average.
Bathrooms need to have a rubberback cotton bathmat to prevent slipping on tile floors.
Great extensive CATV line up. Rooms have sliding glass doors and bunker windows that open in bathrooms and it was nice sleeping to fresh air, ahhh. Need curtains on bathroom windows for folks who must have a dark room to sleep in. Otherwise I had a great night's sleep on that bed.
If you are traveling in a 15 passenger van, be careful where you park. The parking spots for the rooms on the end of the property are small and you cannot get underneath a sales office due to a tight clearance to get to that one lot. Park in Center of Property and make sure room is in the center. All rooms are exterior corridor and have a second floor no elevator. Seniors, make sure you get a ground floor room.

The restaurant on premises was okay. Help seemed very overwhelmed with a large crowd coming in for Sunday breakfast and a little slow to take our order. Corned Beef hash was so so and biscuits were dry. How about some real butter before baking them?
Check out Cold Spring Tavern 7 miles away off 154. A nice rustic place for breakfast lunch and dinner. Great place for a Casual wedding also. Check it out.
Hotel has a computer in lobby you can check emails and print boarding passes out. Pool and hot tub area very nice and pool is 8.5 ft deep. That is what I call a pool. Not like some of those modern day "kiddie" pools.
I would recommend and would gladly come back if I should ever get back to Santa Barbara.
