We stayed just one night on a trip from LA to SanFran. This place oozes old-fashioned charm. We stayed on a Monday night in October and so there were only perhaps two other couples who both seemed to be staying in the annex. We found ourselves alone for both the nicely presented wine and cheese hour before dinner and our tea and cake later in the evening so we had the charming common area all to ourselves. We stayed in the Balcony Room which was, as we had been warned, not for the tall or claustrophobic but would be especially nice for a single traveler. It did have everything we needed for a one night stay packed into it's compact space...comfortable queen bed in a slanted ceilinged nook leaving little space for anything other than a luggage rack, a small sitting area with two overstuffed chairs and a small tv, a very small balcony and a small but adequate bathroom with a stall shower that also had a slanted ceiling...no closet for hanging clothes which was fine for an overnight but would probably rule this room out for a longer stay. My only real negative was that I think it is time for the carpet to be replaced. For breakfast the next morning we chose the yummy hot egg dish and fresh fruit but there was also a selection of muffins, granola, yoghurt etc. From our arrival to our departure, the staff was friendly and helpful, engaging with us when we initiated conversation and otherwise leaving us to enjoy our own company...perfect! The location was ideal for us as the area was quiet but it was not within walking distance of the beach area and pier if that is important to you. A perk you don't find in many places...I left my favorite sweat shirt behind and they kindly mailed it back home to me.
