When you sit down to eat at the Beachbreak Cafe, you look around at the 'breaking wave' mural and the surfing posters and think - "This place feels like a small surfing town in California and it's going to be a regular for us". Well, that thought was knocked out of our heads as soon as the food arrived. Just because it's near the beach and probably caters mostly to tourists is no reason, I feel, to offer downright bad food! The breakfast sandwich featured a roll that must have been around for 3-4 days - no exaggeration. No teeth on a human being have been invented that could bite through that tough excuse for bread. The hash browns were tasty but served at below room temp, which is some accomplishment when it's cold outside. My huevos rancheros were forgettable. How can you serve a tasteless Mexican dish?
There is obviously no one at the wheel at this restaurant. They must survive on hapless tourists who won't be back in town again. But for this SB resident, it's onward and upward and never again at this less than mediocre place.

Service is laid back, food is generously portioned and locals "hang out" here. If you are expecting posh santa barbara, this is not it. If you are looking for spending a morning like the locals do, this is your place. I like to compare it to a mom and pop restaurant in new orleans. Great for an enjoyable kickback morning.

This restaurant is easy a great find. Very reasonable prices ($10 a person or less for most items) and very very good food. Its only open in the morning through about 2:30 I believe.

Its easy to miss the restaurant. Its hidden a little because of the underpass under the freeway. We actually walked right past it and went to a diner down the street for breakfast..then found the diner stopped serving breakfast a minute earlier (it was 11:30am!) and they suggested this place. Loved it so much we went back a second morning .

I had the chorizo and egg burrito one day and corned beef hash the next. Both were great. The corned beef hash was very different, and not really a hash as more of large pieces of meat and potatoes. More like a skillet dish. But still very enjoyable.

Service the first day was off but the second day was just right. there is no real atmosphere or ambience , although they outside area was fine. Just good food.

Beachbreak Cafe serves more than the usual eggs and bacon. They have a fabulously different breakfast/brunch menu and each item is fresh and delicious. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, and the wait staff has always been friendly and quick to serve.

Get's a little busy come 9:30 but worth the wait. I go at 7:30 I am getting up as the rest of Santa Barbara is just getting there.

Sweet staff!
