“A local's hangout”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2012

This is all about the food. If you imagine all the charm of a Chinese take-out restaurant serving the most incredible noodles you've ever had, you will be well primed for Via Maestra. It's a great kitchen where the food is always fresh and always delicious, it's just a little crazy and a little crowded. Tables outside offer a little respite. The locals understand and hopefully you will too.

“Real Italian done in a place like real Rome.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012

This is Italian done simple and right. Perfect pink and red sauces. Good amount of garlic, real homemade pasta, baked lazagna, fantastic deserts and good bread. Excellent espresso. It is small and sweet and just like you are sitting in a good restaurant in Rome except you understand the language. Great find when the rest of Santa Barbara is Mediocre at best.

“DON'T GO TO THIS RESTAURANT - if you know what's good for ME”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2012 via Local Picks

As you've read in other reviews, Via Maestra is small. Just a few tables and some window seats inside, a few tables outside but it's the smelly parking lot so stay inside. That means it's crowded and sometimes hard to get into. So don't go, you'll make it a whole lot easier on me when I want to go. Don't take your tourist friends, save it for Santa Barbarans.

The food is very satisfying but not overfilling. We were last in Italy in 2000 but this seems authentic to my memories. My wife always - you're stuck in a rut, honey - has the pumpkin ravioli with sage butter sauce and raves about it each time. I order anything else because I'll always get a bite of hers. We like the ambiance. Rarely have the gelato at the table but often will order it to take out.

This very authentic Italian cafe has some outstanding dishes on the menu cooked and served by real Italians! Their ingredients are always fresh and imported from Italy! This is a great Italian experience. Try their excellent desserts!

“Authentic Italian”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2012 via mobile

This adorable restaurant has authentic Italian food which is amazing. The waiters at Via Miestra are extremely friendly and sweet. If you want a little taste of Italy head on over there.
