“Lovely, but stinky right now”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2012

I always bike or rollerblade here on every visit to Santa Barbara; it’s a nice easy ride on the bike path, a beautiful, peaceful destination, and enjoy seeing the plants, trees and birds. But right now, it’s pretty stinky. Recent articles say it’s due to poor water circulation and a rapid algae bloom and decay, resulting in noxious odors. Don’t know about that, but I’ll agree w/ the smell part. They're trying to fix the issue; hope it works!

“A little piece of heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2012

A great little stroll along the lake, especially if you go at low car-traffic hours, early morning, late evening. If you're a birdwatcher, you will have so much fun. It's just a lovely place to be walking out in the sunshine.

“Great for Bird Watching or bike destination near the beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2011

The bird refuge is a 42 acre park with a 29 acre lake and three islands. Its a wonderful bird watching location for waterfowl and other birds. No swimming or boating allowed here but there are hiking trails and three viewing platforms. It is located on the eastern end of Cabrillo Blvd and along a well maintained bike path adjacent to the Santa Barbara shoreline. The beach is across the southern portion of the bird refuge and the Santa Barbara Zoo is to the west.
