Description: The Lark pays homage to the history of California train travel and tributes the treasured and long gone Santa Barbara Fish Market, built in the 1920’s as a commercial fish processing plant, shipping their seafood products throughout the state by rail. With an imaginative yet approachable menu created by the gifted Jason Paluska, The Lark celebrates everything found around Santa Barbara County – wineries, farms, ocean and natural beauty. The stunning design strives to connect to the past and the future, using discovered objects from the past and blending them with modern, urban and industrial materials to spectacular effect.

Based on TripAdvisor reviews we tried The Lark our first night in SB. It was a wonderful experience from the minute we walked thru the busy restaurant to our outdoor table beneath toasty heaters. We loved the menu which features local artisanal foods and the way the kitchen sends the shared dishes out at their discretion. We started with the crispy brussel sprouts, the arugula and asparagus salad, moved on to the hangar steak and mussels followed by the grilled branzino. We tried several delicious wines by the glass from the Central Coast. From beginning to end, a perfect meal in a lovely rustic setting.

Alright... at first glance this place may seem a little bit on the expensive side, but it's worth every single penny! I've lived for my whole life in Italy and have traveled extensively in France (both countries with the best food and wine), so I know what good food is. The wine may seem pricey, but considering that most of the cheap wine in this area is bad, it's worth it to spend a little more for some excellent wine! I ordered the housemade gnocchi and slow cooked lamb shoulder and it was literally the best plate I have ever had, the lamb melts in with the tender lamb and it gives it an exquisite and interesting taste. I also recommend the local asparagus and wild arugula. And for dessert I recommend the passion fruit pavlova, it's unique and tastes heavenly. The ambience is just perfect and the waitstaff is attentive, but non-intrusive. I recommend it with all my heart. Feels like I'm back in Europe

With one night in Santa Barbara, we followed a local's advice and tried The Lark. Terrific casual atmosphere, creative dishes (the free range chicken with mashed yukon potatoes and peas -- and the pea tendrils -- was beyond fresh and flavorful. The broccolini roasted in cast iron was crisp and nutty. The homemade marshmallow and milk chocolate dessert was great -- all in all, a delight.
