Description: Just a few blocks from the waterfront, our restaurant in Santa Barbara operates in a century-old brick building originally home to an industrial linen service for seaside hotels. While the Douglas fir floors, soaring ceilings, and glassed cupola have always been features of this historic structure, the sweeping arches facing State Street were added after much of the building crumbled during the 1925 Santa Barbara earthquake. Built in 1917, the historic building now home to our Santa Monica restaurant was once a transfer station for the narrow-gauge Red Car line, Los Angeles' first mass transit system. It was later the repair house for the world-famous Pacific Ocean Park, home to the oldest wooden roller coaster west of the Mississippi. These days, we're still a stone's throw from Venice Beach, heart of where L.A. goes to play -- and eat.

We always stop here to have lunch when we visit Santa Barbara. The service is great and the fish is always fresh. The Mac Nut Mahi Mahi is the best!

“Wonderful Mesquite Grilled Seafood in America's Riviera”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

The main drag downtown Santa Barbara has many eateries but none has delivered us the satisfaction this did in our super long weekend there. Alexia, our waitress, was warm and impeccable in service. She knows the answers to my queries about food origins and when she was finally stumped on the origin of the prawns, she went to ask the chef rather than [--]. We ate there twice and were very moved by the simply done but fabulous seafood. To start with, the Fanny Bay Oysters (from BC, Canada) were plumb and juicy with fresh briny taste that reminded me vividly of the salt sprays during my Salmon fishing trip up in British Columbia. Definitely an A+. This being the start of the Salmon run in British Columbia the restaurant served wild caught BC King Salmon, mesquite grilled (A+) with a Mojo de Ajo sauce. Wow! It is a real treat these days to eat Salmon this wild and fresh, never mind that it was cooked moist inside and crisp outside. I can still feel the texture writing this now! They should really advertise more about their mesquite grill because for fresh seafood, there is no better way to bring out their natural goodness with the smokiness of mesquite wood. My companion had grilled BC prawns on a bed of greens (A-). We paired the wonderful seafood woth wines from the area - a Tolosa Chardonnay from Edna Valley (88pts) and a Kalyra Sauv Blanc (86pts) from nearby Santa Ynez. Both are fresh samples from nearby wine country. We were transported by the experience overall and swore to come back (which we did!) While a part of the State Street that forms the downtown area, Enterprise Fish Co is apart from the rest - situated between the Amtrak crossing and the pacific highway 101 underpass. It has a sister restaurant in Santa Monica.

“Was excited bc there were many good reviews.... SKIP IT!!!”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

But.... It's just a chain restaurant. Nothing really good. Except the bread and butter - but even KFC has incredible bread/biscuits. Bad service, nosy, kept getting worse. And me, a chick wh never misses dessert, didn't even bothers

I'm sorry to hear that you're not a fan of our place. There's nothing we love more than serving up fresh and delicious seafood to locals and travelers alike, and while we do have another location in Santa Monica, we're still a small business. If there's ever any issues during your meal, don't hesitate to let a team member know -- we'd always be happy to fix that right away.

I see your review was quite some time ago, so how about another chance? We have a huge variety of seafood on our menu, and I know we could find you something that wows.

Best,

“Awesome fish!!”

Wow! I've eaten in a lot of nice fish restaurants but this is one of the best. The lobster bisque was meaty and delicious. Try the seasonal halibut with the ginger soya reduction sauce. Just incredible.
