Description: Just a few blocks from the waterfront, our restaurant in Santa Barbara operates in a century-old brick building originally home to an industrial linen service for seaside hotels. While the Douglas fir floors, soaring ceilings, and glassed cupola have always been features of this historic structure, the sweeping arches facing State Street were added after much of the building crumbled during the 1925 Santa Barbara earthquake. Built in 1917, the historic building now home to our Santa Monica restaurant was once a transfer station for the narrow-gauge Red Car line, Los Angeles' first mass transit system. It was later the repair house for the world-famous Pacific Ocean Park, home to the oldest wooden roller coaster west of the Mississippi. These days, we're still a stone's throw from Venice Beach, heart of where L.A. goes to play -- and eat.

“Perfect lunch!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2011

Stopped here on the way up to San Luis Obispo for lunch. I ordered the mesquite grilled seafood ceasar and my wife ordered the caprese with grilled scallops. My salad had char grilled romaine that was unlike I've ever tasted! It had a full skewer of grilled prawns and lots of crabmeat as well. Two finishing touches to this awesome creation were an excellent ceasar dressing (that tasted like it was made in house) and lots of fresh shaved cheese! My wife's caprese had 4 huge scallops, really fresh buffalo mozerella cheese and an excellent balsamic glaze! This is one of the BEST meals we've had in quite a while!

“excellent food and interesting decor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2011

my husband had the scallop risotto and said they were the best scallops he'd ever eaten. My pasta and shrimp was also good. Service was very friendly. It was a Tuesday evening and wasn't busy. It was interesting to watch the exhibition kitchen.

It's easy to miss this restaurant as its near the underramp for the Highway but worth visiting

“Great atmosphere, good food, good value.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2011

We spent one night in Santa Barbara, and were tempted into this place by their happy hour $1 Oyster offer. I would certainly recommend this to any out-of-towners.

The atmosphere is sophisticated, but lively. The Oysters were fresh and tasty. The House Chardonay however was not our cup of tea.

We enjoyed our aperitif so much that we returned for dinner a few hours later. There was a very reasonable offer on lobster which I couldn't refuse, and I'm very glad I didn't as it was delicious. The Sea Bass was also excellent.

All in all we had a very memorable meal at a reasonable price. I would certainly recommend it to friends.

“Felt like the server was a used car salesman...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2011

Service was slow. Server encouraged us to order sides that were not included with the meal--yet led us to believe they were--and then removed the additional charges when we questioned them. The tuna was sub par--very stringy.. sirloin was okay and the "Prawns" were misnamed. They were medium sized shrimp. In all, a disappointment. We don't recommend.
