We went on a very busy night and there was a major musical in town and customers had turned up for pre show meals. Notwithstanding this the food was superb with plenty of choice and the service was good and friendly. No problem recommending this restaurant.

Located on State St. in the heart of the Arts District is one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Barbara. Overseen by Owners Richard and Tina the wait staff is courteous and well informed. Recomendations about wine pairings appear in the menu and on the daily specials page.

The fare runs from Mediterranean influenced to classic Californian wine country.Being a couple of miles from the Harbor means that the seafood is always fresh and expertly prepared..Opal also has a fantastic gourmet Pizza menu; great as an appetizer or as an entree with a salad. The wine list is one of the most extensive that you will find in Santa Barbara both as to varietal and price point.. Recommendations are always available from the staff. If Richard is in the restaurant when you visit ask him as to his wine recommendation to go with your meal. He is one of the most knowleadgeable people I know when it comes to varietals and vintages..By the glass wines are also availabe.
I frequent Opal both for lunch and Dinner and I am never disappointed as to the menu, daily specials or the featured wine. If you are going for Dinner I recommend you make reservations .

We had dinner at Opal on a Friday night after a friend who lived here recommended it. This place is popular with folks going to a nearby theater, so we were given a 6pm or after 8pm seating option. So at 6pm a lot of parties were being seated, but we got a nice window seat. Since we weren't on a timeline to get out, we were fine with waiting a bit between getting our drinks and getting dinner. Our server was attentive and the food was excellent. We shared the bay scallop salad and had the lemon salmon and the paella for entrees. They have and extensive wine list, even by the glass. Opal has a fun atmosphere and great food--just manage your expectations on a night that coincides with a show. We would definitely return on another trip to SB.

We were a group of 6 looking for a good dinner in Santa Barbara while on a business trip.
We booked fairly late and the restaurant was very accommodating.
The evening started on a great note with friendly and prompt seating, and continued to be a great evening.
The service was great, the food excellent and the wine and a great pairing.
The restaraunt is obviously a local favorite. It was full all evening on a Monday night, and yet the pace of service was perfect.
If you are in the Santa Barbara area and looking for a good night out, do not miss this restaurant.
We would definitely return!

Great food. Unique flavors. Nice location. However service was weird. Our waitress abandoned us in a middle of our diner. Bill was brought by a manager who took care of the rest. Kinda weird. Almost like our server didn't want to serve us
