We pulled up at El Encanto and were immediately greeted warmly. I was assisted out of the car and we were actually walked right in to the dining room hostess. We were seated in a limited view area and asked to be moved to a view table and were immediately accommodated. Wait staff was impeccable.

The food was a bit disappointing. Stay away from the abalone appetizer which was tough and way over-garnished. The soft shell crab was okay. The two desserts we ordered were excellent.

This is one of those romantic places you go for a drink and an appetizer and to enjoy the view. The service was fit for a king.

Nice menu and service. Beautiful location, whether inside or on the patio. Highly recommend for special occasion.

This is one of Santa Barbara's most expensive restaurants and we expected delicious food and impeccable service. View is fabulous. Food is good--if you can get server's attention to take your order and then wait way too long to get served. Menu is somewhat limited; presentation is nice when the food finally arrives. For our party of eight, we had to get up three times to look for a server, ask that our order be taken, ask for bread to tide us over until the food arrived, and ask for dessert and coffee. Staff was apologetic and comped coffee, dessert, and bottled water, but we would have preferred to pay for those items and have the service that the high prices and caliber of the restaurant demand.

We dined at this beautiful hotel restaurant for a special birthday for my mother. The service was terrible. Yes, we've heard this is standard for the El Encanto, but I didn't believe it, and I assumed everyone was fussy, in a bad mood, or just plain wrong. WoW, was I wrong--the service was downright lousy! Shocking for a restaurant of this caliber-- with such good food and high prices--for Santa Barbara. The waiter forgot to take our order, left us starving and begging the front desk of the hotel for bread. When we were finally served, the men at the table were served first, and the guest of honor received her food last. Something wrong, if they can't get this right.
After the meal was done, our plates sat on the table in front of us a full twenty minutes before they were removed from the table, only after a member of our party got up to tell the front desk about the lack of follow through. We noticed the same held true for other diners in the dining room as well. The bad service just continued, when the coffee was brought after dinner, it was cold, this is just not okay, and only a half cup was served the comment was "this is because the coffee is so hot". Cold coffee? Yikes! The management took off the charges for many items on the menu to make up for the bad service, which was the correct thing to do. The right thing to do would be to have better service which matches the price point.

The food and service was impeccable, but you pay for it. Pretty much every meal was in the $36 range for dinner except steak which was $50+. I called and asked what the corkage was to open a bottle of wine - $35...that's a record in my book. However, the wines by the bottle prices were pretty normal. It would take a month to get through the wine menu....very extensive.

We ate outside...the view is spectacular...overlooking Santa Barbara and the harbor as I recall.

We started with an abalone appetizer - excellent but minuscule. We followed it up with rack of lamb, once again excellent. For dessert we had pana cotta which was also excellent.

Do dinner here for special occasions.
