loved this drive which we completed ... and in fact did the drive on our way to the botanic gardens which were OK, but less fabulous than "getting there."

Rent a bike and roll along the coast. Nice bike path, but you have t to look for the signs at times. A really nice way to see the beautiful homes and coastline.

Lovely Trip up Highway (route 1), great scenic views, all that sea fog added to the atmosphere, not many places to stop and take photos but nonetheless unmissable

well on the outside everything seems just perfect but it is not , overwhelmed with dirt homeless people does take away from the natural beauty of the city , there are better scenic drives along californias magnificent coast line for instance ,Monteray bay , Cambria also not far from the beautiful Heart Castle , gasoline becomes rather pricey but if you just make one trip to this area there are more rewarding ways to spend your time and money . this is wine country so there are all kinds of wineries around this area . also traffic and parking are a pain in Santa Barbara so traveling a month in this area i only spend one day at Santa Barbara

We went down this many times as we never tired of it. It's a lovley drive and you can see how the rich and famous live as you pass mansion after mansion on Cliff Drive. Stop at the top and view the ocean - it's stunning! Whale watchers come here to see the migration of the humpbacks. It's a good spot from which to do so and it's nice to chat with locals there. It also passes through a residential golf course - very attractive too. Good to do just for a drive in scenic surroundings with no place to go in particular.
