Owner description: Originally founded in 1873 and rebuilt in 1924, the Lobero Theatre is recognized as one of Santa Barbara's architectural jewels and a State and City landmark. It is the home stage to most of the major performing arts groups in Santa Barbara. The Lobero LIVE series brings touring artists that enrich the cultural offerings available, focusing on genres which are most suitable for the hall’s intimacy and acoustics, including jazz, blues, bluegrass and folk. The Lobero Theatre has recently been named one of the best jazz venues in the world by leading jazz magazine, DownBeat.

The Lobero is right in downtown SB and is a fun plqce to see live shows. It feels like an old theater, a little dog earred with a lot of charm. I have been a couple times to see dance and the stage accomodates modern dance well. Most recently, I had come to SB to see Keigwin and Company perform some new work that was created in residency there. That same night we also revisited by way of film a community dance project that had been set by K+C on local dancers and lay people a couple of years ago. Overall a delightful evening in a hospitable theater.

Saw "Sound City" here during the Santa Barbara Film Festival 2013, and have to say the sound and the image were great. I have not seen live music here, but I suspect it is a great sounding room. Smaller and tighter than the Arlington. There are no concessions or food of any kind, so eat before you come! Friendly staff and easy access location, with loads of parking lots and garages on Anacapa, heading southbound, in the 1-3 blocks before you get down to Canon Perdido.

We live in Santa Barbara and my only regret is that we don't get to visit the Lobero more often. It's a lovely venue with every seat being a good seat. My only thought would be that it suffers from the same affliction every theater in America has, too little leg room. Other than that, fabulous in every way.

We attended "Legally Blonde" which was put on by teenagers who were not very talented. We were not told when we purchased the tickets that this was a student event. Most of the singing was screeching; the plot was stupid. We left at the first break.

A beautiful, old world, intimate, cozy theater where you can spend time with the best of touring national and international performers from jazz, rock, opera, theater, comedy, lectures etc
