This restaurant was recommended to us by a Santa Barbara local. Since it was a Friday night, the front desk guy at our hotel made a reservation for us. Our table was ready as soon as we walked in the door. The inside of the restaurant is very pretty and we were seated at a lounge table with very comfortable chairs. We decided to go with a few different small plates as well as a couple of cocktails. Everything we tried was excellent. The waiter suggested the ceviche sampler and we were glad we took his suggestion. It gave us the chance to try 3 different types of ceviche. While this restaurant isn't on the beach, it's still definitely work a visit for a nice meal.

If dining was just ambience & food, they would be higher ranked. It just seems this restaurant is never organized, even if manager is really helpful. The servers deliver appetizers with entrees, the heat lamps look great but are not warm. the salad hardly had any dressing, etc. The cocktails are measured & not strong, in small glasses. However, the food is inventive and usually tasty - with options of tapas or larger items. The decor is pretty hip.

It just seems that all the staff are disjointed

The tapas are good, but expensive for the portions what you get. The lunch time taco bar is good and more reasonable. We been there a few times in the past because of the fun bar scene. But, the last tie we went there with a group from Sweden and one of the food items had a metal screw (from a pan we believe). Luckily, no one suffered severe dental damage, but it did cause us concern. Our server only offered to give us one free dish not expressing any concern about the condition of their guest. We paid up and made a beeline for the door. We probably won't be back.

Yesterday my wife and I went to Cielito Restaurant for lunch.. We were taken to the second floor and seated at a darling round table just big enough for two. Our chairs were two very large, stuffed, leather armchairs and sooo comfortable! Most happy to get them since the restaurant was very busy. Our table overlooked most of the restaurant.
We had seen an add for their short rib tacos, so that is what we both ordered. Also two Negroe
Modelo Mexican beers. They arrived in the tallest glass beer flutes I have ever seen and were filled right to the top. With them came a very tasty dish of chips. As we waited, Tod, the new manager, came over and made us feel quite welcome.
Then our meals arrived on two attractive oblong plates. The two delicious looking tacos on each plate were accompanied by a generous helping of sauced rice, a small dish of cheese and beans, as well as a small salad, all on the same dish. Also served were a green and a reddish sauce to add as we wished.
While we were impressed with the looks of our dishes, the heavenly taste they delivered was all we could possibly have hoped for. It was one of those meals where you hated coming to the last bite. We managed to resist the temptation to order another round!
So when next you feel the urge for Mexican food coming on, head for Cielito and a highly successful meal!

The restaurant is off State Street hidden in a clever niche behind the Santa Barbara Library. The food and service were very good. We sat in the bar since we had 6 in our group and it was very nosiy (Friday night). That noise is just too much for me to endure for long. I wish restaurants would conside the nosie level when desiging the interioir. I recommend going there but only if the din of noise is low.
