“Nice modern hotel very close to the train station”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2014

If you are taking the train into SB, this is a great location to stay and explore SB by foot. The hotel is close to everything, the pier, the shopping on State Street, The Funk Zone, and all the great restaurants. The front desk was very helpful and the free snacks and drinks were very welcomed. Our room was on the small side and the bathroom configuration was a bit odd.

This hotel is new and restored from an old building. Check in was fast and we were given 3 options of a complimentary glass of wine, a complimentary drink from the pantry or 400 points for being gold member.

We heard about the free parking behind hotel and staff was willing to share on which sides of the road to park and there are cleaning activities on certain days of the week. This helped us save the $14 the daily parking fee at the hotel. Hotel actually has a back door right to the road behind using the room card.

Room is small but we had expected this. Our room came with a patio but not much use with the weather in Feb. Design of the room was modern and chic. Cold air managed to seep into the room though due to some gaps at the window.

Hotel was near to the beach. You will reach it in 5 min if you turn right after exiting the hotel. Turn left and walk through an underpass and you are at the shopping area of State Street.

Heard the train sound but did not pose much of an issue.

Overall a great 1 night stay and would return again if the price is still reasonable.

This is my first visit to Santa Barbara and I was pleasantly surprised by this great hotel. It has a boutique hotel feel and decorated with great detail. I was glad I stayed here due to location to the Funk Zone, State Street and the ocean. There are many restaurants, shopping and activities to do within walking distance. The best part is the service. I was treated like the only guest. The front desk staff really went out of their way to ensure I had everything I needed. You don't meet a stranger at this hotel. Room is super clean, comfortable bed and all the amenities including a Kuerig in your room! Also I stayed in a room with a private patio. Beautiful design!

Dear Mickey,
Thank you for the positive review, you really made our day! We’re glad you enjoyed the hotel’s boutique, modern style and noticed the details in design. I especially appreciate the comments on our excellent staff, they were happy to give recommendations to their favorite spots and make even a first time visitor feel like a local! The Funk Zone is still an up-and-coming neighborhood with exciting plans for the future, check back with us for more information on your next stay. Thank you again for the highly-motivating review!

This review is long overdue. My husband and I spent our one-year anniversary in beautiful Santa Barbara and we decided to stay at Hotel Indigo, and we are so happy we did. There are so many great things I can say about this small and wonderful hotel. But to start off with, the decor is urban contemporary; very beautiful and artistic. The rooms are on the smaller side, but we did not mind at all. It was great for our needs and we have traveled a lot, especially in Europe, so we recognized some of the smart and functional features of this hotel (such as the bathroom). The location is great, close to the beach, the urban wine trail (ask the staff if you are not familiar with Santa Barbara and they will be happy to help, because it is definitely worth a visit!), and to most attractions Santa Barbara has to offer. Neither my husband nor I was bothered by the train, or any other noise for that reason, we slept very well; the beds are comfortable and if, for some reason, someone would be sound sensitive they do offer ear plugs, and if that is not enough I would urge you to not book a hotel that is located downtown (anywhere, in any bigger town or city) and next to a train station. The list can go on why I love this hotel, but I have to say that the absolute best part about Hotel Indigo is the friendly staff, who greets you with a smile and are always happy to make good recommendations. So thank you Amanda, Robert, Brandon, Frank and Dan for making our weekend so special and memorable! We will definitely be back.

Liked this hotel a lot. Was quite amused at the size of the room, it wasn't much larger than the sleeper car I had just arrived in via Amtrak, but a very clever room layout, neat location, and it seemed to have a down right happening restaurant attached to it.

We pulled in on the train later than anticipated, it was already dark, but only a block or two walk from where we exited the train. It was literally right next to the hotel.

As soon as I walked into the lobby, I dug the vibe. We dropped off our bags, walked down to catch the end of the Santa Barbara holiday parade, and then went back to this cute and small room where we had a good nights sleep. I dug the shower too!

I was with a friend, but this would be great to take a partner who was more than a friend...that sounds strange so let me say, it would be a great place to take a wife or girlfriend. Way too small to bring both, but either would truly get a kick out of the place if they like close quarters.

The privacy between the room and the bathroom was not really there, so eat light when staying here, but you really couldn't go wrong in a place like this when it comes to a romantic getaway.

We left in the dark much like we arrived so I have to get back here soon to explore the city for a couple of days, and when I do, I will book my stay at this charming place.

Should have heeded other reviewers observations. Not bothered at all by location and train noise not noticed at all (but in room ear plugs suggest others have been bothered). Hotel finishing a remodel pushing it too far in direction of Euro trendy chic....aka tiny rooms, wet bathroom but very clean and modern. Usually like small boutique hotels because not cookie cutter and offering a unique experience. Unique is good as long as you don't step over the line trying too hard. Physically can't change room design. Appreciate they were pet friendly! For some may be perfect...trendy, near beach on site restaurant (Peruvian/CA...how trendy is that!), but not for us. Plenty of other choices.

The staff were so friendly and the hotel was beautiful. Right off the train station, easy walk straight there. We only stayed one night, but loved it. Our only concern was that we were in a small room. Other than that, I would easily recommend this hotel.
