This is not your ordinary hotel. It is a boutique and trendy hotel that just opened a few months ago but is not snooty in any way. We stayed for one night and only cared about location but found the place to be fun and kind of funky. There is a neon sign on the way to the rooms, interesting murals, even a library. The rooms are small but someone put a lot of thought into them. They definitely know how to maximize the space. We really enjoyed the room but it is definitely not for some people. In the bathroom there is no separate shower but instead a creative glass door with curtain which worked quite well. The staff was great and went out of their way to help the guests. Easy walk to the heart of state street and the beach.

My husband and I just had a great two-night stay at the new Hotel Indigo. This hotel is located in a 100-year-old building that has been a hotel in times past, and it's obvious that a lot of care has gone into the renovation. The hotel is stylish and trendy but without being snooty--due in no small part to its excellent staff. Brett welcomed us when we checked in and pointed us to our room "just past the Does This Sign Make Me Look Fat sign" (one of the many pieces of contemporary art adding to the unique style of the hotel). Other staff, including Amanda, Angelica, and Joleen, were friendly and engaging every time we encountered them.

We had a room adjacent to the upstairs patio on the non-train side. The sunny patio has comfy outdoor furniture. A caution about the patio--on Saturday night, it seemed to be "party-central" in downtown Santa Barbara, and a rowdy group decided to continue the party on the patio (right outside our window) at 1 am! A call to Brett brought him quickly to politely break up the party--ahh, quiet again.

I really liked the bathroom--and have certainly never seen one like it. The shower door folds back against the wall when not in use, as does the curtain, with the result that the bathroom appears much more spacious without a separate shower stall.

A couple of minor quirky things--in order to get to a convenient outlet to plug in the coffeemaker, you have to pull down a panel hiding the plugs for various electrical items. But to get to that panel, you have to first take the ironing board off the wall--a bit clunky! Speaking of coffee, while it's great to have it in the room (it's in the lobby as well), the hotel provides that horrible powdered coffee "lightener"--come on, spring for some half and half packets.

It's refreshing to see an upscale hotel that doesn't charge a resort fee, and has free wi-fi as well as free computers to use in the business center.

With its great location, design, and staff, Hotel Indigo deserves to be successful. I hope they do well! We'll certainly be back to enjoy the welcoming atmosphere.

If you like a slick, sleek, modern environment then Hotel Indigo is for you. The rooms may be small, but the feeling is so great you won't miss your luggage you may have left in the car. The staff is delightful, especially Angelica and Frank, and the library is filled with the most amazing art books you've ever seen! A definite MUST when you are in the area. We loved it!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the south side of the building as they may be a bit quieter, but you really don't hear much noise from the nearby train station anyway so don't let that stop you from booking. You'll love this place.

While on business in Santa Barbara I opted to stay at Hotel Indigo, despite that my conference was 20 blocks away. Before I even got there my stay at Hotel Indigo began with a feeling of being invited in. The folks at Hotel Indigo including Robert, Amanda, Brett and others are friendly and accomodating -- I got a sense that this wasn't just their job -- rather, it is who they are and perhaps indicative of the type of staff that Hotel Indigo demands. The rooms are fun and comfortable and impeccably clean. I'll choose Hotel Indigo again.

My only complaint about Hotel Indigo is that we spent so little time there! In later March 2012, we had one night in Santa Barbara en route to Ventura. We checked in after 9pm and were gone by 6am the next morning. The lovely guys at front reception welcomed us warmly and couldn't have been more helpful. The space is gorgeous. The renovation is very artsy (absolutely incredible artwork all through the common space and in guest rooms) and still highlights the original building's brick walls in parts. Our room was tiny. Extremely tiny. But it was perfect for my mom and I. Very efficient use of space and gorgeously decorated. We were on the main floor and the private patio was cozy and cute. Wish I'd had some time to curl up there with a book! The train station is right next door (which is why we chose the hotel) but the noise didn't bother us at all. If I ever get out to Santa Barbara again, I can't wait to stay at Hotel Indigo and get to explore State Street with all the cool shops and restaurants.
