My wife and I loved the location of this rental so close to State St and the wharf. The property was very comfortable and we felt very welcome!
My family and I enjoyed the easy access to the beach (4 blocks walk or a short trolley ride) and shopping (1 block walk) in our second-story apartment. Having the deck with a fire pit, a lovely kitchen, and the beautiful mountain views was an added bonus. It was a little warm the weekend we stayed, but the air conditioning unit worked well and the windows allowed for a nice cross breeze. My only complaint, and it is minor, is that it is very small for four people. Since we only stayed a couple of days, it was OK, but if you're thinking of staying for longer with a family, it might be a little too cozy.
We stayed for four nights in this lovely apartment in the heart of Santa Barbara. It was just as we hoped it would be, attractive, clean quiet and comfortable. We loved relaxing out on the deck after a busy day site seeing, although unfortunately it was a bit too warm to use the fire pit.
Communication from Laura was excellent. We appreciated all the suggestions for local places to visit, restaurants and so on.
We were able to walk to most places. As it was Memorial Day weekend, there was a great atmosphere in town. There's a lot to see and do in Santa Barbara and the surrounding area and we wished we could have had at least a week.
We had a wonderful time in Santa Barbara's and Papa Dux was the perfect home base. What a treat to be welcomed with ambient fire places and soft music. Walking distance to everything and so nice to have a secure place to park. Thank you for a perfect getaway!
I stayed in Papa Dux which was upstairs and required walking up a steep staircase. I have knee and back issues so it was a real strain. I am in my 60's this apartment was not right for me. Also, the purple velvet sofa is a nightmare if you are traveling with a dog. Thankfully once it was covered with red and purple sheets the problem was solved. The location is near several businesses and their is a fair amount of noise from the street. Not a plus for me but the location is convenient to all the things to do downtown. And the manager is very helpful and the owner is delightful.
My husband and I are returning to Santa Barbara after many years on the East Coast. Since we are looking for a new home, we decided to stay at Papa Dux, because of its downtown location, and because we wanted a local base to hunt for our new home from. We stayed in the upstairs apartment and we found the deck, with the beautiful mountain views to be such a lovely place to relax. Everything was there, fully equated kitchen, washer and dryer, and a very comfortable bedroom. The whole place "felt like home" and in fact by the time we left we had placed a bid on our own new home! We could walk to wonderful restaurants, up and down state street with all the shops and events, and we even had the chance to see events at the Santa Barbara film festival. Laura contacted us prior to our stay, with all the instructions we asked for, but unlike a hotel, where there is often constant noise, Papa Dux felt private. We would recommend staying there and yes, the five stars are well earned!
